Can Plant roots grow new plants?

I just re-potted my plants and noticed that there were little tiny plants that resembled weed just starting out from the bigger plants root. Is this possible? I just picked them out and re planted them into a different soil, curious to see what happens.

not possible... roots cant just make a new plant(where would the photosynthesis start)?.. i'm thinking you accidently dropped a seed in ur soil at one point in the grow..

could be... but never drpped any seeds in soil so we'll see.
