Can you help me indentify this light system?

HI, I'm a first time CFL grower. A buddy of mine gave this light system, but I think I'm missing the ballast system here. I don't even know the type or wattage of this bulb. The socket is made my sun systems.

I am looking to figure out what other components I need to get this light operational. Any help is most appreciated.

It looks like an HPS light set up. The last pic is cfl's

yep thats an HPS alright maybe a 250 watt, doesnt look too big.

I think that's a 400hps... But the bulb size doesn't matter you should just chuck the bulb and get whatever size ballast and new bulb you'd like to go with that hood.

yea true, thats a better idea. it would be like u just got the reflector for free.

The bulb is a 400W, at closer look it was printed on the bulb.

As far as the ballast goes, how do I determine which one I need? (I really know nothing about HPS lighting systems and help is really appreciated).

(I'm trying to use HPS and ditch the CFL's but I am a true greenhorn with this and not sure which ballast needs to go with it)

figure out what size of light you want in your setup, 250, 400, 600 hps and buy the ballast and the bulb
you already have the hood and the mogul plug so you are part of the way there
