Canna Coco and nutes

Hi,

I emailed Canna with a question about using their coco medium along with their coco nutes.

Their recommendation was to use a flood to waste system. This would not be a convenient setup for me and I really need to use a more "typical" recirculating system with reservoir. I don't know where I would continually drain the runoff and it seems as though it would use a lot more nutes (some are going down the drain) and cost more $$.

Has anyone out there used Canna Coco and the associated coco nutes in a grow with better results than just plain rockwool with Canna Aqua nutes in a top feed or ebb and flow system?

If the use of coco does not offer significant advantages such as ease of use or yield, I might just stick with rockwool.

Ebb and flow I use a botaniacare ready grow. I use a 50/50 mix of canna coco and ready grow. The nutes I use are triflex or super natural. Next time I just plan to use ready grow as I have had good results.

Cocoa is safe and the plants love it more. There is a ton of run off and you can use a ton of water and nutes. Then you have to throw the stuff away. But I got great results and felt the plants were safer from my errors. If it's practical for you I would recomend dialing in the cocoa.

the former is obtained when cocopeans are roasted during the chocolate making process.
Cocopeat is obtained from the husk of the coconut. Check this out

check out my grow dude! i'm using canna coco a and b nutes with coco slabs. drip system which run to waste. there is minimal run off. over 1 month not even 10 lts of 6 slabs @ 1m long with 18 sites.

i am a dwc guy who is going to try coco with the canna coco nutes. I am using 50L smartpots. Does DWC Yield more than Coco? thanks for the help.

There are several different methods of drain to waste some are more costly then others and can be less successful depending on your environment. Drain to waste can be the best way for Canna Coco depending on how you waste it. Here are a few of the methods I am familiar with hope this helps.

Flood and Drain to waste- The most wasteful, expensive laziest way to go. Not only would you spend mass amounts of money on nutrients down the drain or in your front rose garden. unless your waste goes to your outdoor garden you lose a lot of money. I find that people who do this method interact with there plants less and that leads to problems down the road. Every plant get water every time if it needs water or not which can cause soggy bottoms root issues due to lack of oxygen..

Top feed Drip to waste- Another more viable option is to top feed with a drip system or they have these drip rings you can set up for more consistent coverage. The waste will be more waste then the hand feed method below and less then the drain to waste. Again this can lead to problems as when you install tubes in each pot is in that place never moves unless you remove the drip tubes and that can be a pain in the ass. Some plants may not do as well due to all of them being fed even when not needing water and that will also lead to waste and un oxygenated roots.

Hand Feed to Waste- If you just hand feed every plant and lift each pot to get a feel for how much food is still existent and add enough to get it to par, don't over water if a little liquid comes out the bottom it'll be the waste but its not a lot. Some plant may not need water that day others may. Keep a pump in your res recirculating the nutes, and just ph before every use and Canna says it should be good up to 7 days i never mix more then will last that feeding if not part way through the 2nd days feeding.Waste will be less then a half gallon per 30 Gals of feed. Plus hand feeding give you a chance to say Hi have a chat and check for any new infestations.
