I have no idea how most of you folks grow outdoors. It's shit like this that would drive me insane.
The investigation began when an Edgewood Drive woman called deputies Sunday saying she saw eight plants on the porch of a vacant Edgewood Drive home earlier in the day and now only a few remained. Deputies walked to the edge of the property where there was a bean field and saw a wheelbarrow with several marijuana plants next to it.
A few minutes later, Jesse Key, 18, and Brandon Smith, 19, both of Carlisle Township, approached the marijuana plants on dirt bikes and were arrested, the report stated. Marijuana was found in Smiths pocket and deputies noted he had a tattoo of a marijuana leaf on his left arm, deputies said.
The teens said they entered a house on Edgewood Drive at 3:30 a.m. and stole marijuana plants. They took the plants to the vacant house before moving them to the bean field so they could plant them and have them blend in with the other plants.
The teens took deputies to the home they admitted breaking in to. When deputies reached the homeowner, she acknowledged knowing her house was burglarized, but did not report it because she had marijuana plants, according to the report. She then asked deputies if she could report the burglary, because 16 marijuana plants, several rings and three lighters were missing, according to the report. Charges against her are pending.
The Lorain County Drug Task Force also was brought in and interviewed Key and Smith
During this time, another neighbor reported possible marijuana plants behind Keys house and task force agents found two marijuana plants in plain sight.
Smith and Key were charged with burglary, tampering with evidence and cultivation of marijuana. Smith also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. They were taken to Lorain County jail. Key was advised his dirt bikes were being seized. The Drug Task Force confiscated the marijuana plants.
