CBD or MMJ for old people with "sundowning"

Sundowning is the onset of dementia for older people where they get anxious, fearful, confused and have problems at night. These older people generally are pretty good during the day.

I know people who are middle aged who have used CBD to successfully deal with anxiety. I am curious if anyone here dealt with older people having sundowning with CBD or MMJ. Thanks for any help.

I would not suggest CBD or THC for mid to late stage Alzheimers symptoms, formal research should be done first. But this has shown promise:

Good luck

Need to be careful because a great deal of sundowners are unsteady on their feet and THC could make it worse

Healing with cannabis, like any other plant medicine, invites us to engage in an unmediated relationship between natural sources and our own well-being. And a trip to Humboldt County, California, the heartland and spiritual home of cannabis, is an excellent way to appreciate the plant’s medicinal powers. As Grossman puts it, “There’s so much noise in the CBD market. Our real value proposition, to be honest about it, is our focus on pure flowers, pure extraction, to produce products we would want to put on our own, and our family’s bodies.”

I recently read a book called "Cannabinoids and the Brain" There's a lot of biochemistry, but there is a section on Alzheimer's Disease. A useful sentence from the book: "Numerous in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated the protective effects of cannabinoids against amyloid-β peptide and tau phosphorylation, the markers of AD." Meaning that Cannabinoids seem to help with Alzheimer's. They do mention that taking an ibuprofen to help with short-term memory loss is a good idea.

I don't have any useful knowledge about Alzheimer. I do know some things about CBD products.. I have been purchasing High CBD flower, legally.. It is around 15% CBD and less than 1% THC. My experience with the flower is that it's excellent and delivers the expected healing qualities [romised by the CBD Industry..

My experience with store bought oils/Tinctures has been leaving me feeling that I wasted my money on them with no noticeable effect.

My suggestion would be to get a quality batch of CBD flowers (smalls can be had for $50 an ounce on the internet) and either have them smoke them if they are not adverse, or make a nice coconut oil for them...

I think it's worth investigating the benefits and both THC and CBD here, and so perhaps a more robust cannabis oil. This is an older article that discusses a few things and links to some studies: https://www.leafly.com/news/science-tech/the-medical-minute-5-ways-cannabis-could-be-helping-alzheimers-pa
But a few months ago I recall reading a study that strongly linked THC to preventing/halting Alzheimer's and/or reducing the symptoms of the disease. I'm sure CBD alone even in isolate form will help, but it's worth looking into the potential benefits of THC, perhaps even in high doses. If I find the recent research I had read on THC and Alzheimer's, I'll link to it.
My mother was diagnosed with dementia. She has memory problems as well as leg and body tremors, and problems sleeping.
I started making her chocolates with Full Spectrum CBD Oil. She eats one before breakfast and one before dinner. Her tremors are gone now and she sleeps like a baby. I would also say that it has helped her memory, but that is a bit harder to quantify. Her confusion is certainly less than it was.
There are no interactions with her other medications and she is doing great. I had her take a month off to see if her symptoms returned, and they did. As soon as she started on the chocolates again the symptoms went away.

I have an issue related to oxidant exposure that caused painful inflammation to my brain lining. Fortunately cannabis has been very effective for this, to the point where it’s the least of my concerns. I have read that it crosses the barrier easily, which is why it so so effective as a medicine for the mind.

Last year I grew some cbd plants and used them mixed in with other cannabis. I can feel the cbd in it and miss the cbd if I’m only taking high thc strains. Just use the same plant extract methods. Oil/hash/bhang/coco oil etc. The healing is true, cbd is a wonderful thing, and the full spectrum, less modified forms are what I’m preferring.

My best combo was actually quite strong. Some people say cbd tempers the buzz and in some ways it helps, but it can really add to a buzz too. I found it very hard to develop any tolerance to this combo, compared to everything else that was tried:

2 parts Jack Herer:1 part cbd bud.

I have some pretty complicated health issues and it took me about 100 strains to really nail it down to a handful that actually work. About half the strains I've tried aggravated my symptoms so badly I was better off without. About 10% actually help and 2 strains are like the holy grail. The saying that strains have different chemistries and will produce different results is so true. But then i talk to my old stoner brother in law and he sees no difference nor cares about which strain he wants.

Being that there is a large variation in effects the only way for you to find what works is thru being your own advocate and time to research the strains. This involves finding information across multiple websites to find the strain that best approximates the desired effects and stimulates the right areas of your nervous system and brain.

I feel like everyone not familiar with cannabis wants to pigeon hole thc or cbd as good for only a few certain things the medical cannabis system is still like this. On my journey it opened up my eyes to the huge spectrum of positive and negative effects cannabis has. It really parallels all the research and development the pharmaceutical companies have done.

I've tried various cbd products from LP's oils, medical oils, medical and recreational flower and I have to say cbd falls victim to being stereotyped. Each cbd strain will have a foundation meaning it will have some general tendencies but after that the strain and it's effects are strain specific. I tried a cbd strain once called cbd high voltage, less than 1% thc, it was such an awful experience, my focus was like a laser but yet I wanted to sleep, it was such an opposing set of effects I felt like a rubber band, when I came down off I was cooked.

I have to agree, making my own oils keeps all the goodness of the plant in there. The cannabis medical system makes me laugh, they strip out the terpenes and take a one dimensional approach of only focusing on thc and cbd. The people in the know, know this isn't true and is validated when I hear others say their own homemade stuff is better.

The issue is that the market is so focused on really high THC strains. Breeders and growers are working on anything with really high THC. THe problem is that these strains aren't necessarily the best medical strains. Personally I find strains in the 12 to 20% THC range more helpful for my issues than strains over 20% THC. I think the terpene profile of these lower THC strains are more medically beneficial.

I drank a good sized bhang with cbd only bud and did not enjoy it on its own. A smaller amount alone or any amount mixed with other strains was better for me. I’m eating about three grams a day of concentrates.

So I am very interested in the comments about the CBD and seniors tremors. The Drs. meds do not work so well on mine anymore, but I have to add that larger amounts of THC in like homemade edibles and rare times of RSO consumption there are actually increases in my tremors. Are there any other comments or experiences with CBD and senior tremors shaky hands wanting to know. Perhaps even just an add on with the Croakers meds ????
