pending where you buy them they are easy to get look for highest possible wattage, with 2700k (warm light) look for these two things.
This info is wrong, you can get CFL's at any hardware store like lowes, homedepot or walmart. The lights that you need for veg should say daylight on them and they should have 6500k, the above mentioned lights (warm white 2700k) are for flowering

yea.... try to get the most possible wattage... larger cfls are around 8-10 inches in length (100+ watts) but you need less of them... you can get them online 1000bulbs.com like the dude erlier mentioned.. these do get somewhat hot but with some space or ventalation they should be fine.. i have an 100watt cfl about 1-2 inches from my seedlings and they are fine.. then again it is cold as fuck were i am. post pics of your setup and you will get better information and advice for your situation

Ok great now I know where to get light bulbs from. Now I need a fixture to hold the light bulb I plan on buying two of the 42watt bulbs so what can I use to to power those puppies up? Can I use a regular light fixture? I also went to a hardware store and I think I can make a light socket on my own but do I need anything special like a ballast or somehting to power the 42watt light?

no ballast needed.... all you need is the bulb... then a thing to screw it in ( 2 bucks at home depot or lowes) then some wire ( 5 bucks at HD or lowes) then a plug to get it into the wall ( 2-3 bucks at HD or lowes) then rig it all together.... i take it you know how to make a circut... there will be 2 wires you need... 1 warm 1 cold/nuteral... 2 wires should be already attached to the thing you screw the light bulb into... take the two wires
1 will be black(hot) 1 will be white(cold) take them one at a time and splice them onto longer wires then put the longer wires into a plug... woll spliceing use something to cover the open areas of wire.... either a cap or electrical tape.... make sure the exposed wires ( hot and cold) do not touch each other woll the light is pluged in... or it will short out that part of your house ( i know from experience)
