if you use the right kind it can be but its not as good as actual grow lights, I use 8 13w warm white CFL and a 42w CFL for flowering

Keep 'em close and get as many as you can afford. If you can afford it though, avoid 'em.

if you get a male plant but you want seeds so that you don't have to keep on ordering them then keep the male and when you get a female and you want some seeds and are willing to use a female plant for seeds then do so

So are you saying the male plant won't produce buds??? And if it does produce buds are they smokable?

Trust me, you will be dissapointed with anything that is flowered under cfl, especially if its under 125watts. You will get thin runny buds that are not very good.

If you're good at making fixtures. Try some of these type bulbs High Tech Garden Supply
Or just do a search on the BIAX or T5 PL bulbs. Higher lumen per watt. Plus the come in various shapes and wattages. The only thing is that you would have to either make your own fixture for it. Or buy an over priced one. I currently have three of these High Tech Garden Supply. One with 2 blues for my veg box. And the other two have blue/red blue/red, for the lower section of my flower box. The top is a 400watt HPS(cooltube). They all have hangers. So far I've only been using the veg light, which has been working great. The plants are all growing consistently, compact, and no stretching. Supposedly the BIAXs (PL) don't need to be an inch away from the plants because they don't suffer great lumen loss due to distance.

I have a newtek 4ft 8 bulb t5, my brother used it through his last grow and just switched out the bulbs to flowering ones and he yielded pretty good. my t5 puts out 40k lumens....just keep it close to the tops. nothing will compare to a hps for flowering but they come with a lot of headaches too. fuckers run so hot my 400 was air cooled still hit 83-87 degrees. my t5 running over my babys its a steddy 77 degrees
