Cinnamon for fungus gnat control

I just read that sprinkling cinnamon on top of soil kills fungus gnats safely and quickly. Has anyone heard of this or tried it?

cinnamon made the gnats come from everywhere and they almost immediately went into seizures :) As far as killing them, it seems to kill the shit out of them... I hope the cinnamon doesn't do weird stuff to soil or roots. Will keep you posted... you one dude who is interested ;)

I mixed up a blend of cinnamon (fungicide) and grlic powder, black pepper and cayenne pepper. I've already noticed a big difference. I am also going to make 2 vinegar traps. filling two blottles halway or so with venegar and poking holes in lid. It will supposedly attract them to it and trap them.

Yes, you're a white trash piece of garbage.

It makes sense. The herbal pesticides I use to kill fungus gnats and other bugs, states cinnimon, clove and rosemary essential oil. It kills them on contact it's awesome. But the best way I've found to get rid of fungus gnats is to not let them reproduce. Potato slices actually work pretty well too.
Idk if you have any other bug problems, but using silica has single handedly wiped out any whiteflies, thrips, and aphids that were starting to get a foothold.
Really helps with sucking/chewing bugs cause they can't puncture the plant cell wall anymore.

So far this is working, the smell was kinda strong but is ok now. It smells good, just kinda strong. The garlic and cinnamon smell pretty decent together. I have a vinegar trap set up, but since sprinkling the garlic pepper mix on top of cinnamon I haven't seen any flying around :) This might be a REALLY good cheap thing to do, and it helps a little with odor too :)
 
Your little gnat problem tells me exactly the type of grower you are. I mean, it's obvious you a noob and you're over-watering your plants or you wouldn't have a problem. Maybe try working on that first.
 
i got rid of gnats by lowering the temp and not watering until the soil was DRY. it's not a newb problem, it's an indoor problem. outside, gnats aren't common but you will deal with bud worms, aphids and spidermites. if it's not close to harvest, i would spray and not water until the soil is really dry.

i've read a lot about gnats and i haven't heard of anyone havin success with potato slices. i've heard of some luck with sand on top of the soil but not great success.

Yes I am a newb, or noob... noob... makes me think of boobs... oh, but yes, I am probably overwatering, and yes I am dealing with that, but for people who get them, this works to kill the food supply, the garlic and cayenne are supposed to repel them. I figured for things that are all natural and laying around the house I would give it a shot. One day I will be accomplished like you...one day...
