Closet ventilation / sunleaves windtunnel

I want to be able to close the door on my closet for my grow. I am currently running a 430 watt hps but I want to possibly switch to a 1000 watt. If I keep the door closed how high cfm would you recommend? I probably want to get something powerful enough to use the 1000 watt light just in case. I have an ac in my room and the intake air will be around 70 degrees or lower if necessary. I was looking at the 6" sunleaves windtunnel fan because of the good reviews. Will 405 cfm be enough? What are the dimensions of the closet? Cubic feet/meters?
The room measures 1 x 1 x 3 meters or about 3' x 2.5' x 8-9' I believe the cubic feet is around 100 maybe a little less.

Is the intake go to hood or just into room?
Unfortunately the intake does not go to the hood. I already purchased a diamond reflector (they supposedly yield up to 30% more) but it can't be cooled with ducts hooked up to it.

It depends. If you need to stay on the stealthy I side I would guess 405 would cover it, but if sound wasn't a huge issue you should probably go a bit higher. That 1000 really kicks off some heat. But you do have a very nice 70 degrees. I bet the 405 cfm would be fine.

How hot do you get now with the 430?

Well with the door open its perfectly fine. I don't have a ventilation system currently set up so if I close the door all the way of course it gets in the high 80's.

you do not need 1000 watts for that space. good god.
Thanks for letting me know what I need and don't need. I will just go return the light now. Did you notice that my closet is 9 feet tall? A 430 watt light has barely any light penetration and my plants are 4-5 feet tall right now. It would be pretty much a waste unless I did a sog.

so why don't you do SOG? it doesn't seem like a 5 footer is going to increase your yield enough to justify the extra veg time + cost for the bigger light.

and no need to be an ass.

ideal light is 10,000 lumens / ft2 ... if you have 7-9 sq ft of floor space... a 600 watt would be More then enough... a 1k watt light is mad overkill unless u plan on taning in that closet

or tanning your plant.
My closet is just a little over 100 square feet as I said before. This puts a 1000w at 11000 lumens / ft squared. My 430w barely puts out 5000 lumens / ft squared. But enough of me justifying what I am doing with my closet. It would be great if someone could answer my question. Right now after doing research for a while I am leaning toward the 6" windtunnel being enough with the a/c in the room.

get the 6" and this -> Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices
The 1000w would be over kill but nice to have for a future upgrade. Actually, the 4" windtunnel would do it for a 400w (especially with a/c). If you don't have an intake vent, or very large cracks, you won't get results with a closed door (ventilation). Duh, right?

As far as light penetration goes, a 400w is the same as a 1000w in the sense that neither one can shine through leaves. I hope you understand this; we're not talking bullet penetration. When the canopy tightens up, any light will lose its effectiveness. Comprende?

square feet is floor space. at 1m x 1m that puts you at 9-10 square feet.
My mistake, I wrote that when I was half asleep. It's actually kind of funny to me now.

Anyways its just an experiment. I got the light originally for my basement where it would have been put to much better use. I am really having doubts about putting it down there though because I feel there is greater risk when renting. No one has any excuse to go into my bedroom unless its on fire.

If I use it on my plants, going from a 430w to 1000w I should be able to yield at least an eighth more total. This would be the minimum to cover my extra electricity. I'm pretty sure that I can yield an eighth more or everyone would be growing with 400w hps :blsmoke:

I actually bought a different inline fan today that wasn't sunleaves but it has great reviews. It was a good deal, but its only 325 cfm. That should still replace all the air in the closet three times a minute. I am going to see if it works, and if not I will probably buy the windtunnel.

So to recap:
I have a closet 4' x 3' x 9' I am switching from a 430w to a 1000w to experiment. I bought a 325 cfm inline fan where I will run ductwork to exhaust the hot air around the light but it can't be directly attached to the reflector. My intake is going to be a/c cooled to 70 degrees. Lets see if I can cook some cannabis :mrgreen:

That does make sense. Thanks for the advice. I have read on here multiple times that the 1000w can penetrate further because of the increased light intensity. People always say you get the smaller popcorn buds right below the top canopy unless you get 1000w or they do a sog since they dont have a 1000w.

I have put up my 1000w light before and it definitely gets light to where my 430w can not. Anyways, even if the light doesn't penetrate further, it must be correct that the top buds enjoy the 1000w more and will get fatter/denser. Who knows, maybe my experiment will suck and I will go for a 600 or just stick with my 430.
