CMH (Ceramic Metal Halide) ?

I recently purchased a 400w HPS system and with it a 400w CMH bulb. The guy at the hydro shop said it is the best bulb out. Something about you won't get as much yield but you'll get more potent buds. That's pretty much what I'm looking for as I only grow a few plants for myself at a time. I just wanted to know what anyone thinks about them or has any knowledge of growing with them. I've been researching and still am but I think I may get some better info from you guys.

think its bullshit myself, less bud, more potent? rather have big fat colas of widow, haze, kush - all gets u fucked up

It is a great bulb. You can use it for veg and the plants love it, compared to an hps for veg this is like crack

As for flowering, it's pretty awesome too. It will pack the same or similar yield as an hps 400 but with more resin. It's like having the quality of mh bulbs with the speed And nugs of a hps. Just keep in mind 400 watts of any will give you less yield and fluffier buds.

Make sure you hang the bulb in the position it was deigned for. Most likely horizontal. If the bulb is hung sideways it can cause problems. You can, however, buy vertical bulbs as well.

They also run slightly cooler which really isn't an issue with 400s though.

One ore warning, since CMH bulbs put out a very broad spectrum be careful about the uv it puts out. You don't want to go into any grow room without sunglasses CMH and mh are worse than hps. Although some CMH bulbs have a uv coating so it's not an issue at all.

Down the road if you expand a little you can add a 600 w hps and produce some serious weight and quality.

Thanks for the input man, I really appreciate it a lot. I'm using the bulb in a Sun System 2 400 watt Hood/Ballast so it's horizontal of course. What would you recommend for the distance away from the plants? Also will it give me fluffy buds if I'm only growing 2-3 plants under it? Sorry for so many questions, I'm just new to using the bulb and new to growing with a 400watt system period. Anymore help would be greatly appreciated.

Karr said it best. I have read better quality with slightly less yield, only slightly. I love the spectrum on mine, and the growth is nice as well look up riddleme's balls to the wall grow, awesome journal, even better info in it, and the bud porn, oh the bud porn. There is also a CMH group on here that has useful information. Danielsgb also has several great journals with several CMH bulbs, and HPS too. I think you will love the CMH as much or more than the HPS, and pictures are much better under the CMH too
