Container too small...

I noticed one of my plants was not growing tonight so i transplanted it from a 4" container into a 1/2 gallon container. When i flipped my baby out of the small container i noticed all it's roots were twisted up and smashed together in the bottom corner of the container. So i went ahead and transplanted the rest. I am hoping this is the reason it's growing was halted to a crawl. I am growing in a 20''x15''x4ft cabinet attached to my wall with a 4ft floro and two 100w cfl's. Should i go ahead and put them in my 5'x2' wardroab i am planning on using? in 5 gallon conainers. I was just planning on using 6 67k cfl's with 2 4ft floros for the rest of veg. I wish i had pics, i am gonna have to work on that very soon b'cause i know how hard it is to give advice on something you can't see. Thanks Guys!

controlling root growth is the way to control plant growth 4 sure. one gallon of medium for each desired foot of growth is the rule of thumb. controlling root-mass is how bonsai trees are made.

So in other words i was doomed to have a small plant as long as it was in a small container? Thats cool, thank you. I'd say i better get my shit rdy for some growth. Thank you silky.
