Controlling a temp with AC & Ventillation system

View attachment 1062877So I use a ventillation system to control my temps it was fine all summer so far untill I added a 1000W HPS and air-cooled hoods to my flower room.

One day temps soared 95F to 105F.

I broke down and went and purchased a portable AC 9,000BTU.

with the ventilation running along side the AC as you can guess all my cold air from the AC is being sucked out of the room thru my high powered hydrofarm fan pulling air out, My AC is only able to cool the room to 85F-88F....

I have two rooms that use the same ventilation system, so I need to keep running that cause the other room doesn't have an AC - I thought about putting the fan on a timer or just shutting it off occasionally.

The room with the AC is in is about 10x7x9 - 9,000 BTU. The two rooms are seperated by double layer of thick light proof tarps with a Velcro door -Air can pass thru but not easily...The total size of both rooms is 21x7x9

So is it a good idea to shut the fans off or not? The fan also pulls air thru my light hoods, perhaps I should just block off the exhaust for the room with the AC leaving the enclosed hood ventilation system in tact, is it important these plants get fresh air from outdoors?

i had more trouble finding a place to exhaust my AC fromt the basement . what i do is just scrub the air in my room for smell . and have a small exhaust fan ona timer come on once every hour for 5mins to help get some fresh air down there . Hope this works for both of us

Yes , here is what I am going to do, wrap a plastic bag covering the exausht pipe out with a zip tie and just take it off for an hour or so 1 time a day..I will still have good airflow because the air can still escape in other places just not as rapidly

Here is what I am working with here
As far as air related things, room is 21x7 split in two - 11x7 and 10x7

that ac at 9k btu is about enough for a closet...way to small for that

heres a calculator...need to remember this is with no extra heat like we use from lights and stuff...so is for a reg house and living conditions.

Well the temps in the veg side are fine and the flower side is not 21x10 that was typo, the whole room is 21x7 - I only need to cool about 10x7 (Flower side)..the link you gave said its big enough, do you still think it is not enough? The temps on the veg side are perfectly fine :\

The celing is 9ft up, it is insulated room

ok i went back and id say its cause your pulling the air out and not pushing. fans are made to push and only pull through the filter. should be...filter...fan....hood...out

i run 1500 watts in a 6x9 x 8 tall and a 450 cfm fan and no ac and im fine,...and outside right now is in the 90`s my day temp is 82

So put my intake 500CFM INLINE booster fan in front of the hoods? I don't use a filter, for smell I use ONA..

I have

BUGSCREEN-> WINDOW - 3 Holes cut for ducting in a 8' independent ducting , One goes to the hoods down about 5 ish ft of ducting across the hoods and then out the exausht fan in the attic...one is an intake for the veg room, the other an intake for flower room, on intake to flower room duct is a 500CFM booster fan (both room intakes come in underneath plants......

well good luck with the ona..its not for a whole room. its meant for residual smells in the rest of house.

yes fan before hood so it blows through the hood. my filter fan combo is bolted right together and blows through the hood. ill look for some set up pics i may have to help

The ONA works in my situation perfectly so far , you think i should cover up the room exhaust port so its easier to cool with the ac?

I am thinking air will still escape out the tarp into the veg room anyway - just not as rapidly

I am definitely going to rework the intake fan thanks for that suggestion

i would try 2 seperate exhaust and passive intakes.
1) 1 exhaust fan would pull air from the intake and thru the air cooled hood and exhaust out so this would not suck out your a/c. this would come on and off as your lights come on and off.
2) the 2nd exhaust would pull fresh air in thru the 2nd intake and then exhaust the air out. this would be set on a timer to come on every hour or so to give your plants fresh air. as to how often you need this to come on depends on how big the room is and how big the plants are. this will also give you a temp swing up and down as you take out the air from the a/c, then when the fan shuts off the a/c would cool again. you would need to experiment with this because everyones grow op is different due to the size of the room and the location.

why exhaust if your going to block it...no, bad idea. ona works to a point.l all going to depend on stage in flower and how strong the smell gets

maybe some pics would help to. what size fan is this...6 inch? and what size intake hole do you have. all hoses need to be as straitght as possible. each 45 is another 5 foot of hose added to the line. that adds up fast

image653.jpgWell I dont have many pics right now but and none are up to date of the system itself but here is the lights before we added the second hood - it is their lights out right now so don't wanna go in there..mind you that vent duct is not blocking the light anymore it goes thru the second hood

ok heres my 1 light i have right now for the veg. this is only a 430 hps. but gets changed to a 1k in this hood......same set up though...

so my filter is at my highest point in room then is mounted directly to my fan...sucking through the filer...then it blows down the white hose through hood and up n out through the silver end.

both inline fans are 8" but one is a simple booster fan (intake) and the other one is a hydrofarm (exhaust)

ya them booster fans suck...pardon the pun....lol...any resistnce to them and they almost dont even blow. had one. threw it in trash
you have less light than me and more fan...something not right

so loose the small one and use the inline to hood. if not good then add small one to the intake hole to help bring in cooler air.........im lookin at the 8 inch and they say they are 720 cfm. your almost double me

yep I basically got it backwards likely, makes sense. I am going to try the booster fan to push and leave the pull one for now and see how that works out but ultimately your right I should prolly just use the hydrofarm for pushing air thru the lights..it is a little more complicated cause I am using it to vent the veg room also ya know...

With the ONA I have little smell even in the room itself or the room I am venting to or any adjacent room, I placed it at 4 corners of the room and in cups in adjacent rooom - so far 30 days in bloom no smell - there was smell from over 30ft away before I used ONA
