Cpu fans and cell phone chargers..

well i read somewhere on the site about being able to do this...will any cellphone charger work? i have a fan splitter cable (it connects to a regular fan port on a computer motherboard or another fan cord) basicly it turns 1 fan port into 2 via wires...could i wire this up to the cellphone charger and then run 2 fans off 1 charger (not cutting the fan cords at all just plugging them into the fan splitter cable that is wired to the cellphone charger? is there other ways to do this also? (wthout using a fan splitter cable

if theres a way i could do it without using the fan cable id be happy too.. id just want 2 fans per cellphone charger (3 cellphone chargers) would 120 mm computer case fans be ok on the same cellphone charger?? risk of fire in doing this? any risks ?

I am no electrician, just for the record. BUT:
I use 12v computer fans in my closet.
The only things you have to be aware of is the how many amps and volts your cell phone charger deliveres.
There is probably a sticker on both your computerfan and mobile charger.
You can use the charger for your fan(s), with (very very very) little chance of fire because of the low voltage.
Although you should ALWAYS be safe with electricity.
Exampel: Your normal new Nokia mobile charger is 5,7 Volts and deliveres 800 mA, so this will have your 12v computerfan running about half speed of normal.
I found an old transformer from some electric device that deliveres 14 volts and 1200 mA and i have two 12 volt fans running on it.

It definetly works great.

Ty i think i may buy some sort of ac adapter where i can control the voltage output of it..and maybe have some of these running in a parellal circtuit if i can figure out how to do that..-.- i jus kno thats how id have to wire them i have no idea how to do it though haha thx for you in put man very helpful

its simple, go out and get those big 6v duracels (the big square one) not "D's" theyre bigger, and i used a computer fan with the wires cut hooked up to the battery, its lasted 3 weeks, then i stopped using it, and moved to a bigger fan, but it worked perfectly or just do this

The wiring is the easiest part.

Heres what you do:

Take the wire from the adapter and remove the isolation from the wires (don't let the two wires touch, that might short circuit the adapter)
And dont worry, you cant get electricuted from 12 volt.
Then simply try all the fans out, if the fan doesn't run then switch the wires around.
When you know what is + and - you can get going. See the attached picture, that should explain it.

FreNzyBud is rite on. Follow that to the T and you'll be good to go. Just make sure the amps on your fans does not exceed the amps on your power source. I am running 7 cpu fans on a 2500mAmp power source with adjustable volts from radioshack. Buy one it is the shit. You can control the speed and hence the volume of your fans. I can post pics of my veg and flower boxes if you want(all using AC/DC adapters and computer fans. Good luck.

ye i used a xbox 360 fan and a moterolla charger with 2 extra wires to make the two fans work pure simple man

honestly if you want the safest way to do this go out and buy a cheep $30 power supply 150watts or so this will be plenty, plenty of power to control your fans. mine is an old hp ps thats 130 watts. now to get it to turn on with out needing a computer, you take the main harness cut the green wire neer the plug and cut a black one close to it also, now twist the two togeather and plug into a wall. it should turn on, then unplug connect all the fans you need and enjoy! also if you wana be fancy you could install a switch inbetween the green and black wire and then you wont have to unplug it to turn it off if you needed.

i second Trunk5's method. prob find one cheaper than $30 imo.

Doesn't everyone have an old pos computer in the garage or closet. I would totally recycle something(including a cell phone charger) to do something like this. Power supplies(cell phone charger is a p/s) don't push amps. They "supply" up to what they are rated. The wiring and jack will be able to handle more than the supply and the supply should pop a fuse when it exceeds it's rating. So fire hazard wouldn't be a problem. Hells yeah on the xbox fans. EVERYONE seems to have a dead 360 these days. Mine recently f'd up again(I did the xclamp mod to fix it the first time). I'm just going to get an arcade and put my drive on it. Recycle. Stay green!

Check this link out, it's to a site where I found the fans to be really cheap pricewise, I've been running them twenty four seven and this is my second grow using them, so they are very dependable. This is what I bought...http://buyextras.com/bsun12balbea.html

I then went to a thrift store and bought two twelve volt chargers for a buck a piece. Cut the wire close to where it connects to a device, not near the charger end, leaving yourself plenty of cord. Strip the two wires and connect them to the two fan wires, you're in business.

I have 5 PC fans and only two work when touching the wires eh would the other 3 not work even tho the others are? I dont understand what could be wrong??

If you're friends with a local computer techie. You may be able to pick up an old laptop power brick for cheap. Or even free. Like mine. I got a 90w brick just to run any fans I may want. Currently has a 120mm and a 200mm computer fan doing exhaust and circulation.
