When the plants are dried whole, in the dark without much if any damage, the beginning of the drying time is the dark period at the end of flowering. There is some of this effect even when colas are separated or leaves are chopped prior to drying. Because of this, no extra dark period is necessary to get the most from your plants. This doesn't include changes to the light schedule in the last couple weeks, other than total darkness for the remaining flowering time.
So, out of the two choices, our answer to your original question would be 24hrs.

A little off topic but......... I start stagger harvest after between 24-72 hrs of darkness and trimmed under green lights. After that, trimmed bud goes straight to the ventilated drying container in a perpetually dark closet. All while never touching any plant sensitive light. It's a real bitch at first but you'll get better at it as I did. I notice a lot of difference in bud quality compared to previous cycles-rich in terpene filled smoke and its overtones, cloudy heads galore etc when I did it while >70% clear trichs and a 5-6 day long drying process.

I'm not sure about that..
I guess I'm just looking for someone to tell me it's ok to harvest my plant tomorrow instead of the day after tomorrow
