Just so I get this right...

Is Deep Water Culture essential defined as meaning the roots are under water, regardless if it's aerated via airstones, as I see in most photo's here, or via jets of water from above like a GH Aeroflow? I know they call the Aeroflow aeroponic but isn't it really DWC since the roots are submerged?

I guess my EZ-Clone is both aero/DWC then? Since the roots start above but eventually go below.

With DWC if you lost power and the aeration stopped how long will plants survive? Just wondering if you live in the sticks where power can be out for hours if you better have a backup system? I top feed into perlite now which gives me a good buffer, but have wanted to try an aero or dwc method.

Thanks!

just get a UPS will run an air pump for ages. I used DWC for 1 grow and the plants grew extremely fast. Eventualy i had the roots half in water with airstone and half in air. Had power go out and i didnt have any airstones and plants didnt seem to suffer from it.

aero can be a form of dwc but can also be built to have a separate res for water that feeds the sprayers so the roots never really get to the water. there are simple forms of dwc and more elaborate dwc's more simple would be just the simple water res with o2 pump and air stone roots will be in water at all times this is in my eyes the actual definition of dwc nothing real fancy every website i have found and even in my Jorge Cervantes grow bible this is exactly what he shows a dwc being. for the power outages i have had my power go out for close to 12 hours and never saw even a leaf droop on my plants there is a way if you power where to be out for longer than that you could actually change the water out when you saw leaves drooping with fresh water because the fresh water will have more dissolved 02 then whats in your res.
