Any ideas? I have a cheap home depot tarp that is blue and I want to be able to use it as a "tank" to hold water. Is there any way I can dye it to a green or even paint it camo?
Urethane 2K based paints would hold I believe, but they would harden making the tarp stay in whatever position it was painted in. Not sure how hard it would be but a Paint formulated Spray Paint should also work. Such as the Krylon line
Cheap is right. That shit rots too fast. A 100% cotton laid over $10. Dollar Store- 30 gal. storage container or a Kiddie Pool may do better. No, not the Kiddie Pool, animals will tear it up or drown in it. A Cammo'ed plywood top may work with Kiddie pool.
yeah i got one that is brown and black from home depot.
i am a painter and can tell you definatively that painting the tarp or using any solvent base coating is NOT a good idea. for one it isn't going to stay bonded, and the chemicals in the paint will leach into the water.
as far as dye, i was actually thinking about this today for the outside of white grow bags? but i dont think it would be a good idea to use it for the resevoir tarp?
i would either buy a different tarp or risk it with the blue one if you have to.
