Hey I've been studying up and thinking alot about this subject every time I smoke a bowl so I thought I would it toss out some ideas i've got..

first off an Earthshipbongsmilie.... is a type of Passive home made of natural and recycled materials. Designed and marketed by Earthship Biotecture of Taos, New Mexico, the homes are primarily constructed to work autonomously and are generally made of earth-filled tires, utilising thermal mass construction to naturally regulate indoor temperature. They also usually have their own special natural ventilation system. Earthships are generally Off-the-grid homes, minimizing their reliance on public utilities and fossil fuels. (copied some this from wikipedia i'm baked what can i say)

in Arizona there is A whole city in the desert called Arcosanti a completely self sufficient city no powerlines, no gas lines, nothing just livin off of natural resources...here is a link to Arcosanti website http://www.arcosanti.org/

check these out think about having no power bills and having as much sun as you want its the future and I think its a great way to live abit of hard work:eyesmoke: but it would be worth it just using junk and building something great.

totally baked so hope this wasn't to much of a waste of time. :leaf:

Oh man, I love Earthships. I got to help somebody work on theirs a couple of days.
Make sure you check out some other designs, too. There are a bunch of different owner/builder designs that stress low cost and high efficiency. My numero uno recommendation to look at Rob Roy's books, especially Mortgage Free. Like a lot of the owner/builder authors, he runs workshops were you can learn techniques. If you go to one of the intensive sessions (they run from days to weeks), he'll also sit down with you to make a financial and construction plan. He does cordwood and underground housing.
Popular Mechanic's architecture branch published a great overview book of about 5-6 techniques. Cob is cool. Strawbale is easy. The best plan takes advantage of the local resources so you don't have to ship stuff.
