Extension cords

I'm planning on building a greenhouse and I was considering digging a trench and running a extension cord through some electrical conduit underground for heaters and fans is this safe

It's what I'd do. As long as you're sensible with water avoidance...

i have an extension cord running from my pool filter in my yard to my porch above ground....what is ur problem lol ....

I'm just wondering if it would b safe to run for hours on end or would I end up burning my house down lol

i think buried with conduit u will be safe state regulation is 16 inches

IMO I would match the gauge of the the cord to the distance and the watts/amps you plan to pull through the cord to be safe. Like when running over 50-100' and running a heater a 16/3 gauge cord will be a fire hazard (cord ends will get hot). I would go with like 12/3 gauge for heavy duty or at least 14/3 gauge if cost is an issue.

why not just do it correctly ? buy some 6 gage power line put it into conduct and hook it to your fuse box and run it into your green house and it will hook to another box . so it costs a hundred more you can now safely pull 6000 watts . a damn cord is only good for 1000 watts .

agree...a sub-panel is the way to go....10 AWG for 30 AMPS.... 8 AWG for 40 AMPS....or 6 AWG for 60 AMPS

Awful idea. Extension cords and hids don't work..huge fire hazard.. Buy some direct burial. Cable and do it right.
