I recently made my first DIY 4 site bubbleponics. I dont have all of the accessories yet and was needing alil help. Do I have to buy waterpump or can I just let the mist from the bubbles do the job?? Also what size rockwool is needed? Do I use that throughout the entire process? Any help or suggestions is appreciated. heres a pic of my setup so far. I just started learning two weeks ago so dont be too harsh lol. I have 400hps and MH.....should that be good for 4 plants? Also ave 2 air pumps (60 gallon) and 3 12in stones. Im using an 18 gal res.

no u dont need a water pump, unless u wanted to add a drip system or make it aero....rockwool size is personally up to u....all they are there for is to give it some kind of foundation while it grows roots....otherwise it sounds good

Supz man. I started my girlz in a Bubbleponics system and then had to move em to individual buckets, so basically its DWC now. Once your roots get into the water it's pretty much automated. They eat/drink individually. 18 gal rez is big enough for 4 plants, but I quickly learned that these plants get HUGE and they just needed more space. Other than that, everything you got sounds good ;) What nutez are you gonna rock for ur 1st grow? Be sure to invest in ventilation as well. Good smoke STINKS! lulz Happy growing

Im still researching about the nutes....any suggestions?? Ive been thinking about foxfarm. Also does anybody have experience with any odor control products? Im not real sure about how to set up a decent ventilation system. Im going to have a few fans but what else will I need. I saw a few pics from your first grow and they were looking good. Heres another pic of my lil setup.

the setup looks good. I suggest going w/ Lucas formula + calmag. Go lower than the suggested dosage at first and gradually move up from there, but otherwise follow the formula. Also for an 18 gallon res you might want to upgrade both the air pump and airstones (perhaps after this grow). But that is for when you have the luxury to splurge. For now it looks as though you are on the right track. Also, a water pump isn't needed but many do use it to either irrigate (drip) or just circulate water.

Looks like a killer 1st setup man ;) About the ventilation thing...you can get and probably WILL NEED an exhaust fan with a carbon filter. 200cfm inline fan or somethin close to that should do the trick. Carbon filters arent exactly cheap, BUT there are MANY wayz to make your own. The DIY section of the forumz on here has some kick-ass shiz so check that out sometime :D Happy growin

Hey Bandit,

No need for a water pump but you have to do manual top ups. If you put a pump in a separate res you can pump in more juice and have it flow out of your grow container at the height you want it to stay at.. back into the separate res to be pumped again, it just has to be a little lower than the waterline of your grow container to drain down properly. I think it really helps to get more D.O. to your root zone, and more total water volume means more total nutrients and less issue with water disease, aka slime. Also much easier to add water or nutes to your res when you don't have to be fooling with the top the plants are set into. It is optional though, and you can go without for now.

The most important thing to ensure good growth in your system is to keep your water temps 62-68F. Going into the 70s will run the risk of the slime taking over your roots. Again the separate res comes back into play. If you put one outside your grow tent where temp is less, and had the water circulating in, it would run colder. I would maybe suggest using a cooler in the first place, as you can see with my pics. In the summer I have to put frozen water bottles in to keep temps in check, with buckets or totes it was always a losing battle, couldn't keep it cool.. with coolers, it's no problem. Again.. a separate res is handy so your frozen water bottle doesn't actually touch your roots, which wouldn't be good for them, you'd have to find a way to restrain or anchor it.

As for nutes I'd suggest technaflora. I've been using their recipe for success and it's been working really well for me, so well I don't even want to try anything else, though I might give ionic or canna aqua a go eventually, they are supposed to also be good in the DWC environment. When I first started I grabbed a technaflora starter kit, came with everything including cloning gel for $40. (though once it ran out I stopped using cloning gel, I don't even bother with it any more)

Rockwool is also completely optional, you don't need it, I don't use any. I take raw clones with roots and plant them into hydroton.
