FF Happy Frog vs Ocean Forest

I have heard a lot of good things about Fox Farm products, and have decided to try them out What I don't know is which one to use, the Happy Frog or Ocean Forest. I grow in 3 gallon pots if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Start your clones off in hapy frog then transplant into ocean forest, alot of people mix the two 50/50. And just use water and hygrozyme for the first couple weeks or so si ce the ocean forest is pretty hot. Since your only gonna flower in 3gal pots do 2/3 ocean forest in the bottom then layer 1/3 happy frog so the plant can slowely grow into the hotter soil almost TGA super soil style.

As much as I like Ocean Forest, the last several bags had Thrips and I've been battling them every since. I've am using Happy Frog now, and the plants seem to like it as much as OF.

Ocean Forest is a little hot for some strains. I mix both happy frog and OF with more perlite. Happy frog on its own does not have enough perlite in it imo. Some batches of Ocean Forest I have ran into is a little chinsy on the perlite too.

I ocean forest with plenty of extra perlite is always my soil of choice! Never had a problem with it being too hot personally. I love using it though because it gets rid of the need for veg nutes.

Im with this guy.. i just stock up on ocean forest and apply shit loads of perlite to babies or fresh clones. May need a bit of humic acid but I love ocean forest. Although my Ace Of Spades does not like it.. Truthfully, the PlushBerry didnt like it either.. Its prob The BCS

I start my clones in happy frog then tranplant to 1 gal buckets which is 50ffof/50hf then to 5 gals with ffof...ive put clones straight into ffof before and they.handled it

I did a side by side grow test of the two soils there was no difference in plant growth between the two.

Well I wouldnt imagine a difference essentially both are same with dif nutes after nutes ate depleted in a month or less you move to feeding nutes so both are getting the same after the first month....seedling may grow fater at first in hf since less nutes being easier on seed but slower when first stages of growth because less nutes but in ffof slower at first cuz hot nutes on seedling but faster in later growth from more nutes...just my thought

I'm a believer in FFOF too. There are some people that trash it, but aside from the Subs super soil recipe that a lot of us cant afford, those that trash it rarely give a better option to it.
There are only so many brands of "out of the bag" soils out there. I've tried the Roots 707 but I quickly switched back to OF
Its just too bad I gotta drive 2 hours to get the stuff.

Should I use the soil swear-word? I've got two plants in Miracle Grow and they're flourishing with zero added nutes.

As I said before, both Happy Frog and Ocean Forest are good choices.

A buddy of mine grows in MG. No perlite either. His pots are like buckets of mud. I think the last plant he harvested gave a dry weight yield of one quarter oz.

And it's your contention that it was the Miracle Grow that was his problem?

There's a version of Miracle Grow that has "moisture control" in it. I'm betting that your buddy used that whereas I am using just the regular version.

Lets not get into a Miracle Gro war over here.. Everyone play friendly. I think we all have either used MG once before or know someone who uses it and we can make our judgements off of our observations. My first grow was in MG and was possibly the best pot I ever smoked. Could it be the strain? Possibly.. Could it be the shit in the MG? Possibly.. But I think its about the growers choice of medium. In my 5 years of growing, I like my results from FFOF and water. Just my opinion.
Many people do a side by side to to make their arguments validated but I say, use what you know/and or like.

I use a 50 / 50 mix of Ocean Forrest, and HappyFrog, I don't use any added perlite because I grow in Airpots and they dry out quick enough as it is.
