Ok, I was out of the hobby for a while, but now I'm back in. I decided to start with 10 WW. I had an older 400 MH and I decided to buy a 400 HPS to go with it. I'm going to veg and flower with both so I can be assured that the plants will have plenty of light.
To make a long story short, I start off with some heat issues, but got that resolved quickly. I planted 10 seeds and all 10 germinated. Vegging at 20-4. PH is consistantly at 6.7-6.8 and I'm using Peter's Professional 17-10-10 every watering (teaspoon). I would say the entire crop is doing excellent. Much bigger and fuller than I remember.
However, midway through the 6th week, most of my plants are starting to show their sex. Good new is that it appears 7-8 of them will be female (a couple still haven't shown). But my question is why are they showing? The light has been on a timer so there's no change there (20-4). The only thing I can think is that they've gotten so bushy, and they're kinda rubbing up against eachother, so adequate light isn't getting to lower leaves and this has triggered flowering? I don't know.. I'm guessing. I've got 2 400 bulbs on 10 plants, so I thought it would be enough.
Any thoughts on this?
I'm at work now, I can post some pics when I get home this evening if anyone is interested. All things considered, I'm pretty happy. I wanted to wait a full 8 weeks of vegging, but I may cut that short if my plants have other ideas.
Thanks.
