just got in a 400w ballast, one metal hallide conversion bulb and one high pressure sodium to grow a handful of plants. i figure out of these 8 i might end up with 4 female with luck!

anyways i started off the plants a week or two ago on CFL's but have since changed up to the real power.

only problem is i have this in a inclosed closet with no real way to ventilate air besides drilling holes into the crawl space and using that (which is my next idea)

the temps went up 6 celcius in practically 10 minutes, so i'm a little concerned. do you think i have the plants too close for their age?

anyways. check it out. i'll try to tidy it up later. hehehe

Nice, I don't know much about the hps as I'm growing/flowering using cfl's but they say to keep the light at least 18 inches away using a 400w, also place a string on yur hood to the tops of your plants to keep track of the lights height...

Concerning the hole and crawl space, not such a bad idea, if you can get away with it, I'm going to have to do that come summer, fresh air from the crawl space out to the attic.

Check out what Iv'e got going on using cfl's...

Good luck to you and your grow!

sitting in that closet is feeling far too warm.

I'm sorry paradox, I believe I read about 18 inches away for a 600w hps but it probably would be a good idea to keep it above that especially until you get that exhaust in there... in fact I would put it as far away as possible till then ..

Again sorry for the misinformation!

thats no problem man!

raised the lights more and put the fan up a notch. temps down to 28c aka 82F

i am in the safe zone now, 80F is roughly the best temp to stick around, correct?

That's cool, 80f should be ok but I heard that the higher the temp the better the chance your plants will turn herm..

Here is something I found that could be useful to you,

The ideal temperature for the light hours is 68 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit and for the dark hours there should be about a 10-15 degree drop in temperature. The growing room should be relatively dry if possible.
Hope this helps!
