First PC Grow. Fox Farm and Lowryder #2

Hey guys! It's finally coming to fruition!

I have my PC case gutted and ready. Unfortunately I couldn't get any mylar but I think I will be ok. I should be able to pick up some in a week or two.

I went to my local hydro shop and home depot and picked up a bunch of goodies.

My list of supplies so far is:

  • Joint Doctor's Lowryder #2 seed supplied by Attitude
  • Fox Farm Ocean Forest
  • Brinks Grounded Timer
  • Belkin Power Strip
  • (3) 23watt 2700k CFL's (I couldn't fit the fourth on the strip )
  • Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer/Hygrometer
  • General Hydroponics pH Kit
I didn't pick up any nutrients due to my budget. The Ocean Forest should have enough stuff in it to be good for about 2 weeks, which will give me enough time to pick up some fox farm liquid nutes.

On the other hand I was given a very nice sample of Neptunes Harvest Fish+Seaweed blend. Do you guys think this will be ok for an autoflowering strain like lowryder #2?
I didn't want to tell the guy I was growing autoflowering plants (not sure if that would be a dead giveaway for cannabis) so I'm not sure if the nutes are good for the flowering stage. The website says it's 2-3-1 what do you guys think? http://www.neptunesharvest.com/fs-136.html

I uploaded a picture of the supplies before I get building!

Thanks for checking out the grow!

I started germinating my seed today. Yes, single seed. It was a freebie from Attitude. I really wish I had a few more, but it's feminized so hopefully if it pops it won't herm out on me. I'm debating about building my desk into a stealth grow. I love PC grows and I'll be doing one next, even if I convert my desk.

Here are some pics of the desk room I have to work with. Does anyone have any tips about how I could make this into a grow area? I'm thinking about using the PC tower portion first (where the power strip and bulb are pictured), which already gives me a lot more room compared to my PC.

Woo! Glad to see you get this going :). I'm really looking forward to seeing where you take your case. Or... perhaps where your case takes you.

Awesome dude! Thanks for checking in. I'm still not sure if I'll be doing the case or the desk/stealth box on this grow. I have a little while before my seed pops!

This is my first time using the paper towel method to germinate a seed. Do they normally get darker in color after being in the paper towel for a night? It's not black, but it's significantly darker than the slate gray color it was.

I can't wait until this thing pops!

Time and money well spent. Looking forward to seeing more :)
Thanks man! So far I've only got about $40 so far. I haven't bought any nutes yet though! I should be good for *hopefully* 2 weeks using this soil.

That's funny. I have 4 26w and 1 9w cfls on two plants aiming right at them from 2 inches away and I was worried that's not enough. It will have to hold me over though, until next week!
Anyways, good luck! Curious to see this.

Paint the inside of it white, or cover it with mylar (or mylar space blankets, their cheap). It will benefit you greatly in a small area like that. Also, what are you doing for airflow? Those lights will still toast some sprouts if the air doesn't move.

Well if I opt to use the inside of the desk, instead of the PC, I will be buying 'Y' adapters for my lights. I'll be able to fit the (4) 23w 2700k lights I have. Since I already have them for the ambient lighting in my room, I might add the (2) 13w 2700k bulbs I have. They're not a whole lot of lighting but it's a few extra lumens in the box, so I figured it can't hurt!

There was a few fans in the PC case that I gutted but I think I'm going to opt for a brand new, 120mm (around 80-120 CFM) PC fan from newegg. They're only about $6. I'm just not impressed with the airflow of the two I have.

edit: Come to think of it, I haven't even measured the inside of the desk. I'm going to do that now and figure out what kind of CFM I really need to exchange the air in the box.

Check out this thread. The post I linked is the beginning of his explanation on how to calculate CFM requirements. Perhaps it will prove useful!

I got a little bit antsy last night. I guess I put my paper towel too close to my heat source and dried out the paper towel a bit :(. Luckily, the little area of paper towel that the lowryder seed was sitting on was still pretty moist.

The seed has been cracked since yesterday, but I couldn't see a tap root or anything, just a dark brown thing (I was afraid I turned it too mush!). So last night I sowed an LA Woman seed directly in some FFOF. I cut off the bottom of a small water bottle to be my first container for it. I put it in the desk with one of the cfl's an inch or so from the soil. I'll keep it on 24/7 until I see her pop up. I'm using a cup we have as a humidity dome, but it's not 100% clear. It's keeping it nicely humid and moist. The only reason for the light and to keep the soil warm.

Good news for my lowryder though, I checked on it today and I think I see the tap root. :)

On a side note, I LOVE the consistency of this soil. I was a little worried when I decided against picking up a bag of perlite but I don't think it's necessary (not yet anyway).

Good stuff :). LowRyder in the PC case, LA Woman in the desk/cab?
Thinking about it, but I only but enough stuff for one grow box (as far as lights, timer, etc go). Because of this I might push off the PC grow box and use the desk for both. That would also give me time to take pictures and do a write up of my PC case for the sites.

Thanks for the shout out, by the way!
No doubt dude! You have some sexy girls, so I figured I'd show them off to people that are interested in what you can do in a PC case. Next time you should really push the limit to show people what can be done ;)

subd up homie! check out my pc grow link in sig
Already following it! haha I appreciate you stopping by and checking out what I have going on. I think I might have posted in your thread already, pretty sure anyway. So many threads I follow on here, but I definitely remember you avatar.

I put the lowryder seed in it's pot today. It's a 4.5" wide ceramic container. Do you guys think that will be big enough? I'm working with a small area, and I know I've seen people grow in party cups but I don't want to strangle my root system.

Heres a pic of the cracked lowryder seed I took yesterday.
