First pheno hunt, any tips?

My first grow I looked for a good mom plant. Out of 6 bagseed the only female I had was 1 out of an alien og bag. The plant smells like a grapefruit with a slight hint of gas on the backend, real pleasant smell. The trichome production isn't huge, the fans aren't coated or anything. She is about to finish up and I got clones of her going.

For my second run I wanted to do a better hunt than my first, so i popped plenty of seeds. People may scoff at me using bagseed for herm issues, or the whole unknown aspect of the seeds and if they are s1, crossed with something else etc. My opinion is so many fire cuts came from bagseed. I myself years ago grew many fire bag seeds (I grew outdoor over a decade ago, these are my first 2 indoor grows for clarity). So I know the fire is in here somewhere. I know the weed personally was fire and kept meticulous labels and ratings....nothing lower than a B was kept with most be A to A+ bags.

Anyway I want to pheno hunt quite a few plants more than my first, looking to keep the plants small and just flower them (taking clones from each for backup) and just see what I get from there. Would I be better served to use 1 gallon tall growbags or 2 gallon bags? Should I just toss the seed plant and start working with the clones immediately to test them as clones since that's what the goal is for these plants to make moms?

Anything anyone can tell me? I've seen others take this route and they kinda inspired me to do it...just trying to bring back some old resin that seems lost in the new strains. I'm currently running my newest seeds though as practice, eventually with a plan to move on to the older seeds over a decade old
