first time dwc question

I have a question. I have a homeade dwc set up but instead of net pots I have plastic cups with holes and also in the cups i have a brown planter? I do not know what it is called, when i bought it I thought it was rockwool. However, do you thinbk that is a good enough growing medium or do i need something else?

sounds fine to me, if the roots can easily get to the bottom with minimal exposure to light that is what you are going for, you want to block light from getting down into your resovoir but at the same time they need to have an easy time growing thru the medium and they still need to be able to receive oxygen, Ideally you will want to get some clayballs(hydrotron) or any type of medium that both retains moisture and blocks the light you could even use pearlite. If this is not an option then it will work either way but it does promote healthy vigorous growth if you had something like this.

pics would help wonders, if it's not rockwool? what is it It might have a jacked up ph? put it in a nutrient solution & check the ph.

I think it might be some sort of peat. noob mistake i guess. I'm going to get some hydroton tonight and hopefully transplant everything. I am not in the seedling stage yet so I hope that it is easier to move. Thank you all for you're advice!
