First time grower, 1 out of 3 plants stunted growth and shriveled leaves.

First time grower here.
Growing indoors under a 400w Hps, all germinated from seed at the same time, first one to pop through the surface is the small one in question.
Temperature is between 21-26c during lights on and 15-18 lights off, i did have a heatpad in there during lights off but i don't think it was doing much.
Watering when the top inch of soil gets dry now, i may have over watered at first maybe? but the other two are fine so i don't think its that..
They've been out of the ground around 8-9 days.
The small one in question got the husk stuck on it but was the first to come up, i removed it with a pin it come off pretty easy, but as you can see its so far behind now when i was the first to pop/sprout.

1. Whats wrong with the small plant?
2. Is there anything wrong with the other two plants, and are they normal size.
3. Should i keep the brewery heat pad under them when lights are out, it may get down to 15c or so.. but it stays around 18 with it on.. only really near the bottom of the plants tho.
Thanks for any info.

Are you using Nutrients? or are there nutrients in the soil? that may be a nutrient lock out if you have added nutes to already nutrient rich soil. I'm no pro, I have seen plenty of that in my garden. FoxFarm Ocean Forest helped me kill a lot of plants..... also.... HPS for veg? are they autoflower? if not auto you should maybe downsize and change to a 6500k fluorescent or CFL? your grow your choice.

No, i haven't added any nutrients but where i bought my soil they said there would be enough food in the soil for 2-3 weeks.. I'll check the bag shortly.
Yes, HPS for veg as i couldn't be bothered buying a MH bulb, thought they veg fine under HPS.
They are not auto flower.

I'd try to flush the nutes that are already in the soil out. it may be a little too much of something for such small plants. or what is your Ambient air temperature? heat stress could cause it to look like that.

Thanks for the help.

The other two plants are fine though aren't they? They're all in the same soil etc.
Air temp is constant 21-26 during lights on and 15-19 lights off.

Try www.growweedeasy.com for future diagnoses. They look fine to me. I just transplanted my sour diesel #2 from a 6 inch pot a couple weeks ago. it was 5 weeks old and 16+ inches tall. 3 gallon pots or larger will work for flowering.(they sell packs of "grow bags" very cheap, they work just as well as pots and are also reusable. (i'm transplanting from 3 gallon to 7 and 10 gallon pots for my 4 when they go into flowering.) the larger the pot the more the plant can grow. you can veg them for as long as you'd like, in whatever size container you'd like. if you feel the need to get some outdoor trash bins for HUGE plants. go for it. wait at least 3 weeks for the 2 that are fine before checking the root system(push up the bottom of the container, if possible, and carefully pull the plant and dirt from the pot. If the dirt seems to be loose and is not being held together by the root system, then it is not time to transplant. Does that answer your questions??

Hey, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply.
Yes that answers most of them except for the one plant that has something wrong with it, slow growth and looking a tad wrong?
Keep in mind they were all germinated/planted at the same time and the small one was the first to sprout/germinate... :S

yes I was just trying to correct my last post when my computer froze. Flush all 3 with clean distilled water. I was looking at the first picture again and saw that top left one starting to follow the small one. so to be safe. flush all 3. and start looking into what nutrients you'd like to use. Personal favorite so far is General Organics GOBOX. follow the schedule completely and you won't need to worry about pH levels. I have been using it for 2 grows and haven't used my pH tester once. perfect mix everytime. some plants may call for a little more N P or K, which you just figure out and add as you grow.

How do i "flush" all 3 of them and why if the other two look healthy?
It only seems to be the small one thats not very healthy but its still growing etc, just slow.
I can't really test the PH levels of my soil and only tested ph of the water.

they look like the soil might be a little too hot to me- the crinkly leaf thing. it doesnt look that bad tho. 15c = @ 59f is a little on the cold side for baby plants but not that big of a deal imo. the little one is prob just smaller, plants vary. might turn out better than the others might just be little. i thnk the point about the light was that alot of ppl veg under floro's to save money. hps works great for veg, but things happen faster, so less time to corect probs b4 they get big. gl and hf

The soil being hot might have been from the heatpad i had under them? I no longer have that running as i only wanted it running when they were real small.. it would have been High 20's maybe even low 31 degrees in the soil.
Oh, yeah i need to invest in some fluro's for my next grow probably, saves alot of money i guess and does the same job.
So should i just let the plants be as they are and see how they go? They seem to be growing well and look okay apart from the first true set of leaves being a wee bit out of shape etc.

The lights around 50-60cm away atm, not sure if or when i should move it closer?

in the case that it may be the beginnings of a "lockout" your plants would slowly get worse if nothing is done at all. flushing them will let you know if the problem is nutrient related or not. you are not doing them harm by flushing them. just removing the nutrients for the time being, allowing the plants to recover. a proper "Leaching" is approx. 3 times your container size. so for a 1 gallon you'd flush 3 gallons of water through it. and 1itsme may also be right. if the medium is too hot then you are literally frying your root system causing the plants to wither away. remove the head pad, flush the plants, and in a few days you should see improvement. once new growth is looking the way it is supposed to, then water with your nutrient solution.

Alright, thanks very much.
I'll wait till the next watering to flush them out suppose.
Thanks again.

by hot i meant too much nutes in it. some soil mixes will burn the bejesus out of young plants. cough ffof cough. the heat pad is prob fine. about the floro's- hps is a better light the plants will grow faster and have closer internodes than cfl, faster also means nute probs will happen faster. so you just have to be a little more on top of things. i would start lowering the lights when the plants are looking healthy. did you spray anything on the leaves before they started looking like that?

Oh right, its Terrazilla soil mix, i can't find how much nutes are in it :-/
Are they not healthy looking? I mean the two bigs ones look it but the wee one not, nope but i did mist the seedlings when they were really tiny.. With ph'd water.

E;/ Should i be doing anything to the other plants or just the sick looking one?

next time you water, check the runoff water pH, the water that comes out the bottom of the pots. that's what you want to check first with plain distilled water(neutral) make sure your soil is where it's supposed to be. like I said before, they do look ok but there could be a problem developing in one or both of the other's especially if all conditions are exactly the same. when you say pH'd water, do you mean neutral distilled water? or did you add pH down/up to the water to change the reading?

oh okay, i can only test with spa pool PH test strips atm, i can buy some better ones tmrw maybe, whats the PH meant to be when watering and soil PH?
Its tap water that i leave out for 24 hours, then use it. I'm from New Zealand so the waters decent where i live.
