first timer

hello everyone. new to the forums new to the wonderful world of cultivation. Basically wanting to do my first grow got about 500$ in funds to drop initially wondering if anyone can point me to a decent setup wanting to harvest about 5 pounds, just hoping for some advice ( type of lights good for vegging/ good soil to use etc etc) ive heard of people reaching 3-4 ounces a plant!!! i want some of that haha. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well i would go with a nice size HPS prolly like 250 or 400 watts depending on ur grow area(hps for bloom but u can veg with that but typically metal halide for veg), and then with that u have to worry about heat/ventilation. everyone will tell u to use FoxFarms soil but if miricle gro will work if thats all u can get ur hands on...and ull want to invest in some good nutrients i use technoflora but there are a ton of different types

5 pounds? You're in over your head, especially with your funds. A light is your first major buy. My 1000w HPS ran me back $300, and that was a decent price.

To grow 5 pounds you're going to need multiple lights (At least 2400 watts worth, for a first timer maybe 5 pounds is possible with 5000 watts, you just have to know what you're doing), lots of nutrients, lots of soil (or a hydroponic system), skill, and patience.

You need to grow a few time`s young one it`s not as eazy as just putting a seed in the ground and puff you got a pound.......

i havn't been growing long but for what my opinion is worth, take that 500$ and get yourself a nice safe reliable light hood and ballast. id recommend getting yourself a dimmable electronic ballast so you can dial it in to suit your needs as you learn (thats what im doing and its workin great) thats about all i can offer advice wise . just dont spend too much on cfls like i did, they're nice to learn with but you will eventually toss them (for the most part) for HID.

and if u got money left over, a good ph/ppm meter. those would be my first two purchases if i had to start over

well its not my very first time but its my first time ever going for a big build. like i said i got 500$ initial start and will have access to more but just wondering what i need to get started im told CFL bulbs are the best way to go about it i got a 10x10x10 room to grow with

go get yourself a good light hood, bulb and ballast, and inlinei fan. that will get you started


see what deals your local grow store has, should be able to get a good electronic 600w ballast hood bulb and a 6" fan for 500$. dont skimp on the hood tho make sure its sealed

You'll probably need 100 CFL's to grow 5 pounds. Just sayin.

So 5 lbs is about 2500 grams... at one gram per watt (which is extremely hopeful) you're gonna need about 3 1000W lights which you can't afford with 500 bucks... not to mention the carbon filter and fan you're going to need to exhaust the heat... not to mention the nutrients, mediums, etc.

Sorry bud not gonna happen... what do you need 5 lbs for anyways? to sell?

I think your best bet would be to search craigslist and ebay for a couple cheap light setups. Your not going to be able to get 5lbs with that but your going to get more the more lights you have.

i would refer u to i grow hydro.com for your lights and what ever ur going to use hydro bucket or soil. i would probably go with some fox farm soil if ur a 1st timer. and for ur lights they have exchangable hoods that u can go from hps to mh, hps for veging and mh to bud. that should help for a big yield. i usually go with attitude seed bank, i actually made a pretty sweet package today, its pick and mix: auto lemon skunk, auto hindu kush, auto white russian, auto ak47, then advanced seeds black diesel. these 5 seeds come out to be about 80 bucks, but come with 5 free seeds. green poison, fast bud, speed devil 2, amnesia haze, and blue mysic. so its a 200 dollar value for around 100 with shipping and handling. any questions u have just comment on my profile. and if i help u out at all + rep is always nice

was hoping to get some real advice so far all i seen is people shittin on me for askin a fkn question or two im clearly not gonna find any real help here. ive seen maybe 1 post that was decent clearly rollitup isnt the place for me. if there are mods here they can close this thread

im pretty new here but this is bull , his question was not unreasonable for somone who doesn't have experience, and everyone here is ready to jump down his throat

first off this hairlylemon guy has the lightning backwards, hps for flower, mh for veg. and i wouldn't recommend blowing 1/4 of your budget on genetics jsut tryin to get started, bagseed would do
