flooding problem?! help

OK, so my weed sprouted yesterday ... we werent expecting any rain but we got some. right now its in a small red party cup (plastic cup) and the only way of draining are the holes i poked in the bottom of the cup. im guessing my dirt has turned very compact and i was wondering of the best ways to dry out /drain the water? just throwing this idea out there but do you think putting a layer of rice on top of the dirt would help absorb the water? sorry for the novice question...first time growing

all pots no matter the size need to have drain holes. you might lok at adding some perlite when you transplant into a bigger pot when your plant gets around 12-20"tall.

i never thought of using rice i like that style of thinking
have a good learning exsperience
