Fluorescent lights and odor for tiny closet grow

Hey guys, this is my first post :D, i've been reading around alot of forums and other websites for the past week now. I'm putting 2-3 plants in a small closet in my room and im wondering what kind of fluorescents i can get away during sprouting/before flowering.

From what I've read I won't be able to get away with any of those natural sunshine flourescents you can get at home depot right?

As for my odor question, i am trying to keep this discrete and im worried that the 2-3 white widow plants that i want to grow will have too much aroma and might give me away.. I'm not worried about my room reeking of it ( i smoke pretty dank bud everyday with lots of people lol ) but im worried about the smell escaping when i open my window.

Also, i'm room is on the 2nd story, if that changes anything :)

all help is appreciated!

i should probably give some dimensions and how many plants...

The dimensions of the closet is about 42 inches wide, 60 inches tall, and 20 inches deep

I plan on starting with 6-7 seeds

you can use anykind of flourescent light you want there are all types T5, T8, T12 etc..T5 are usually the best if you are going to use the FL(tube lighting)
CFL(compact flouresecnt light)are prolly the best and can fit many into a tight space.. "cool white, daylight, bulbs are going to be best for veg 6500k"
and for flowering use 4100k more of a red spectrum..remember to keep the flouresecnt lights 2 inches away from the plant

how many lumens will you need during the sprouting/pre-flower for 6 plants?

i plan on using a 2 foot deep by 1.5 foot deep space with a single 5100 lumen fluorescent light ( its a little cubby hole at the top of the closet ) for growing the seeds till they get too tall for that area and then switch them over to a 600watt HPS light.

do you think this is enough room for the sprouts or will the hps be too much for them at that time?

lumens don't matter. par rating does. any flouros have a very high par rating. for vedge most people use white light around 6500k. i just did a perfectly controlled accidental experiment though and found out that actinic 420nm will grow plants in their early stages much faster. i have 10 plants in 2 rows of 5. i put 1 t5ho 6500k over 1 row of 5 and the 2 t8 27 watt actinics over the other side. they are all growing in the same hydro tub but after 24 hours i had to switch sides to even them out. I live in canada and trust the hysro store here and she said actinic really provides the blue and white spectrum well and most advanced growers use them for veg. Your only prob i see is that your cab is 40 inches. you can't fit 48 inch tubes and 3 foot tubes hardly have any bulb variety. For veg and clones i would suggest t8. its more efficient than any other flouros and mh. good luck man.

oh yah. for odour don't use hepa. i tried it and maybe there are technically less particles of smell in the air it spread the less particles all over the house. Use an ionizer. If you use hepa i stuck a furnace carbon filter in it and it works better.

If i use the 600 watt HPS for starting the seeds at the beginning of the sprouting till the end, would the plants grow way to fast and high.
to avoid this could i make the distance in between them farther.

OR

would it be better to just start with fluorescent lights?

The more power youput to them will not make them to big but just grow faster. you decide what size to flower your plant. but if you want a 3 foot plant at the end and don't want to take 6 months to get there use the 600. if you want small plants then grow them with the 600 to the size you want and then flower. bigger light doesn't mean bigger plant. just faster growth. if you want really small plant flower them when they're like 6 inches. that should give you about a 2 foot plant finished roughly.
