For Chronic Itching Dogs?

Hi, first post and I'm not really sure if this is the right place for it, but...

I have a dog that, for the past few years, has itched like crazy, all day. He often rips gashes in his neck which we have to cover up and keep him near us for a few days so we can physically stop him whenever he scratches. We have gone to vets dozens of times, we have tried expensive shampoos, controlled diets, pills... Nothing works. The common consensus is that it's some type of allergy, but considering we have no idea what's causing it or how to help him, that idea doesn't really do anything. He's a small poodle type mutt (rescue), about six years old.

I've heard that marijuana can be used to treat extreme itching, whether chronic or sudden. I'm open to all possibilities that might help him, so if this has promise, I'd go for it. I'd like to know what you think about this idea... whether you've heard of it in any way, for dogs, for itching, or both. Doses or an actual case of doing this would especially be helpful. Also helpful would be itching cures you know to work, related or not.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that my sis' dog is the same way. Sometimes I think the sprays/meds help her but she's just so used to scratching - she keeps going anyway. shotgun him and find out.

They have benadryl like drugs for dogs....Also try adding some essential fish oils to his diet....They come in little capsules that you just open up and pore on his food. We use a hemp shampoo on our dogs that is great stuff....It is def diet related we have been down this road with our one Shitzu...We had to keep trying new foods until we found one that did not irritate her skin. While dealing with this I did some research on what is actually in Dog food and it would blow you away if you knew half of the shit they put in commercial dogfood. Good luck just keep trying new things until you figure it out......Doubt that MJ would have any positive effects in fact i think it might intensify any itching the dog has already.

It depends on the dogs personality, example Sadie Ann our terrier shepherd mix hyper little beast tried that exact technique to see if it would help her flea allergy for the week while I waited to get my check for her meds and she'd get stoned and fixated on scratching herself and we weren't trying to make the her so high she was comatose...
