Get ready for a trip!

This will be a short journal or a "Holy Fuck!" journal.

I'm betting on a short one but here it goes.

I just harvested a Blue Mystic that went hermaphrodite and a beautiful but severely stunted Kaya Gold.

The Kaya was cut off at the soil so there's no saving that. The Blue Mystic was cut off by the branches with some leaf and bud fluff left on.

I figured I would switch out my lights, change the light schedule, clean out the tent and start feeding it veg nutes again.

The plant has just undergone 7 days of darkness, no water and massive temperature swings. It is horrific shape and I'm going to try to nurse it back to health.

You might be asking, "Why is he doing this?"

Well, I need to know if I can stabilize the temperature in my porch and figure out how to manage humidity. I'm hoping that the plant will act like a canary in a coal mine. If I can see improvements, it means I'm doing things right. If I see a decline, I may not have an environment that can support plant life during winter.

This is the plant right after chop. A sad little thing on its way out.

Wanna see a more recent pic? Now don't think it got better. It got much, MUCH worse.

Well...

20201116_153132~2.jpg

This sad, trash plant is my canary.

So far it has gotten 1 gallon of Cal/mg water. Today it gets fed the first round of veg nutes so we'll see how that goes.

500w of MH HID
2x4 tent

Feeding today will be Bloodmeal, Fish Emulsion, Cal/Mg, Liquid Kelp, EWC. Solids will be top dressed first and liquids will be added to a gallon of water and pH'd to 6.2 to water everything in. I might add a second gallon of water to really get the nutes to the bottom of the pail.

I think that should cover the transition phase. The plant is 160 days old and rough as hell. It might get better or it might get worse. As long as I can keep the temps below 30°C (80°F) and above 15°C (60°F)

The goal is a humidity of 45%

Random update.....because I forgot I had a plant.

I took a peek inside the tent and realized I have a fuckload of cleaning to do.

I also noticed the different growth and rounded leaves.

The plant yet lives after being forgotten a second time.

Still fairly rough shape but it looks like there is new growth starting....or at the very least, bud turning leaf. I'm sure I could go look up the name of what's happens but...why.

Here is for journal....the last two hoots may have just kicked in.

Pictures, you have.

Remembered that I had a plant.

Seems to be growing too.

Temps are in the right zone, humidity is not.

I gave it 1L (1/4th gal) plain spring water a few days ago. It isn't drinking alot.

No nutes yet, the soil probably has alot still in it.

Forgot I had a plant again. It needed water so I gave it some Calmag and some liquid Kelp in a gal of water.

Temps are still good. The humidity is the worst. 19 and falling.

Really glad this is a test. I think I'd be worried if the plant was actually worth anything.

For those that don't know the set up.

  • 250w MH
  • 2x4 tent
  • Nutes are whatever right now.
  • The plant is a trashplant
  • Temps are between 20°C and 28°C
  • Humidity can't be controlled without new stuff
So it clearly needs something. I don't care about the plant so if I fix the issues, yay. If I don't, oh well. I already have the info I need.

If the plant lives until Spring, it goes outside to be found again in October.

Still haven't cleaned the tent. Life is busy.

Remembered I had a plant going and it was absolutely begging for a drink.

I had run out of plant water and my only option was our raw water.

20210104_183048.jpg

This is our raw water. It's been known to kill plants so we never used it except for dishes and showering.

I filled up 2 jugs, added random amounts of veg nutrients (GH Organic line), pH'd the solutions and soaked the plant.

I'm wondering if it'll die.

*GRAPHIC WARNING*
Yucky stuff is mentioned.

TL;DR: Mom with a death wish was nearly killed by overzealous hospital before her time. Skip to *** for plant.

So there's been a few life things that stopped me from remembering I had a plant this time.

Mom had a bad fall, she was admitted to hospital. She has opted for MAID (Medical Assistance In Dying) so they admitted her as palliative care.

At the time she was ok with it.

Then she got to understand that palliative care means no food or water and she was refusing the meds to remove the pain and anxiety.

The amount of morphine they gave her initially was bringing her close to overdose level where her eyes were rolling into the back of her head.
So for five days, she hasn't eaten or drank anything from the hospital and only got water when I was visiting.

She started peeing blood and red goopy chunks through the catheter.

When I seen this, I lost my shit. She was quickly given IV fluids and I made sure she ate and had enough to drink. The doctor on staff said we were trying to walk two paths and we had to dedicate to a single end.

So we thought about it.

She's being checked out tomorrow and brought home. The plan is still MAID but we'll be doing it at home where she can be made comfortable, hydrated and fed up until her chosen end date.

It was a miscommunication that almost lead to the death of my mom.

Which brings me to the grey area.

No date for MAID had been scheduled yet but the hospital decided on a care plan that would result in mom dying within a few days without her consent.

Knowing my mom, she would have probably chosen the end of the month, Valentine's Day or something significant to her. She wanted to be in control of her end.

So because of reasons, the plant was left to do whatever. It was melted when I remembered to check it yesterday, I gave it 2 gal of tap water since the last round didn't kill it.

There's a severe defeciency. I'll have to fix that at some point soon. I'll probably do a permanent fix by changing pots and adding a new soil mix with long lasting amendments like fishmeal, bloodmeal and bonemeal. In the mean time, next watering I guess I need to circle back to some quick fixes and juice the plant with some goodness next watering.

Also, I've tried to find spring water in the jugs but all I'm finding is distilled. Where did all the spring water go?

Useful information for future me:
5 days max before water.
Get on a schedule when possible
Get a new type of nutrients
Extraction fan?
Vegetables in the other pots?

1 light set up, fan, 25.5°C
2 light set up, fan, 30.9°C
2 light, no fan, 39.9°C

Yesterday I topped up the soil with ewc, bloodmeal and chicken shit. I gave the plant a gal of water and now it's going back on ignore.

That should take care of the defeciency for now.

I still need to amend some new soil and get a bigger pot for the summer.

So inbetween last post and this one, the plant has had 3 gal of water.

I thought to look at it today and it looks like poo but meh. Right now is the keep it alive phase.

It's alive.

It got 2 gal of water today with the veg ratio of the Remo nute line.

I'll post a pic after the plant picks back up. Right now it looks like a neglected plant...because it is a neglected plant.

I'm not doing well and neither is the plant but at some point in my inebriated haze, I realized I have a plant to care for and I ordered the new nutrients so I may as well use them.

Fun fact: I mixed the solution, tested the pH and there's no adjustments needed. That's always a bonus.

So this is the same Blue Mystic that I harvested last year.

20201116_153132.jpg

I cut this thing down to a sticks and it wanted to live.

I ignored this plant and left it to die without water for a month and it wants to live.

I took away the light's for two weeks and this thing wants to live.

I went to take cuttings from it just now to keep the genetics but lose the mom and thought about what she lived through. So I cut a bunch away from the lights and that was it.

The lady lives. It really is beautiful to see what the plant can survive with a little care.
