I plugged my camera into my desktop uploaded some pics, then camera started charging from being plugged into the usb plug. I then shut my desktop down with the usb cable still plugged into the camera.then when I unplugged the cable and tried to turn the camera it wouldn't turn on, I had push the off/on button a few times it finally turns on then it flashes the battery symbol with a slash through it,then turns off and won't turn back on for awhile then it turns right back off, so that's telling me the battery got smoked, so the question is, are you not supposed to leave the cable plugged in or don't let the camera be charging when I shut down my desktop or just unplug it first correct, so you can smoke a battery by leaving it plugged in I learned something new today

Have you tried charging it with an alternate method? It sounds to me like the battery is completely drained...
