got light qeastion

That wont do anything other than make them grow much faster when put under the 400w hps. how are you thinking it could killthem? I'm just wondering so i can give a more specific answer. Hps put out more heat so you'll have to be mindful of the temps and the distance of the plants from the light, which can vary depending on your setup and venting. air cooled hoods are real good at controlling heat. So if you dont have one you should get one.

kill the plants?

Use the 400w HPS for all veging AND flowering. Your HPS puts out a lot more light than CFL's ever will. You can use CFL's to help supplement light when the canopy grows more dense but don' worry about using them otherwise. Make sure you have ample ventilation so you don't cook your plants.

well i gonna need a much bigger trashcan but im useing a 32 gallon trashcan for veg but gonna be bs cuz the store didnt have 52 gallons but im useing 3 of PC air cooling fans cuting a spot to put in the trashcan and gonna splice the wires to a usb so i can plug into wall or might get some batterys save some evergy but it isnt gonna us much so wont matter. and thats pretty much my set up but i kno im gonna need to get somethink lil bigger soon. I just hopeing it wont get to hot for the plants in the trashcan but wit 3 air cooling pc fans i think it be ok. please respond ASAP useing trash can so i can hide the light from ppl who dont need to kno. maybe i should get one more fan to even the air flow out.

are you planning on sticking the hps in there for flower or do you got a seperate area for flower? what are the dimensions of the trash can? how many watts of cfl are you using in there? you should have a fan on the inside blowing air on the plants too, its needed for proper stem/branch strength, the reason in nature, the wind, your fan on the inside will be a good enough substitute for the wind. I dont ever turn any of my fans off. I run them 24/0. how you hook your fans pc fans up matters, if your using say a cell phone charger, which is usually whats used, if you hook more than 1 fan to it will split the power between the 2, which imo is usually fine for 2-3 fans, if you try to go above that it will end up making the fans run alot slower than they should be.
