http://www.marijuanagrowing.com/entry.php?49-4-000-000-views-of-Jorge-Cervantes-Channel-on-youtube!
The first video I made was Jorge Cervantes ´Ultimate Grow Video in 2006. It was the first DVD on the market that was easy to understand and simple to use. The DVD sold incredibly well for the first 3-4 years. The most important thing that happened was that the video was pirated on youtube hundreds of times. The video clips appear everywhere in the world. The disguise I used to wear then with the beret and the black Rasta dreadlocks is very easy to distinguish. Within a couple of years the DVD had been pirated in Russian language and many of the clips posted on youtube had been translated to Spanish, Portuguese, German etc. All of this turned out to be free publicity. I added up the views from the old videos the Jorge Cervantes´ Ultimate Grow series and get lost counting somewhere around 12, 000, 000. People continue to watch the videos today!
There is little or nothing that can be done about pirated videos that are uploaded to youtube. It took me a couple of years to accept this simple fact. Once I learned I was forced to change my vocabulary from “pirate” to “partner.” This means that I am working with others and encouraging them to post their own videos and circulate my videos for everyone to see. This tactic is working out very well!
Thought I'd post that quote from jorge on his forums, btw embedding youtube uploaded video isn't copyright infringement on the uploaded website, it is contested by the copyright holder on youtube or where the video is originally hosted, which would normally have DCMA form to remove content owned and reuploaded, I agree though its much the same as reading a book without paying for it, although recently youtube probably could present more viable platform for monetizing views then a DVD only platform, but anyhow quite interesting how he encourages the sharing of the dvd now as opposed to hindering the sharing of it, reading most of the blogs he seems genuinely humble about the views and responses.
I see your last post now about the removed content; wonder if it was jorge himself or not as he implies different on his blogs on the forums. Too bad he didn't have a content ID match on the dvd, would make him able to control the content sharing restrictions, and still get views directed to main account of the content ID owner, sad to see a good vid go.
He is encouraging the sharing of the video on the blog on his own site on his administrator account, somewhat curious if it was false copyright to get it removed, or if he has just changed his stance and not posted about it in his forums. :/
