grow room question

so i am building a grow closet for the winter time ad have a questio or two. first off my closet is 8ft high, 3 1/2 feet across and 2 feet in deph. i have a 150 watt hps but i am waiting for a 400 watt in the mail as we speak. would the 400 watt be enough to get some decent yeilds or should i use the 150 as well? would it be worth it to install the 150 in the room as well? also i believe the 400 watt puts off some heat, my closet will be in a room that has no heat there for its almost as cold as out side (gets to 10-30 degrees in winter) would that be enough to working with the heat from the light to keep it at a decent temp do you think? i will have a fan in the room or course. i believe thats it for now. thank you for your time in advance. looking forward to hearing from you.

You could run both lights if you think it will be cool enough for it. HPS bulbs tend to get fairly warm if the room's not ventilated well. Are you running the HPS as a 12/12 or will you be using it to veg also?

im thinking with the room being so cold it would work well with the lights and create the perfect temp in the closet. im also thinking i will only be using the hps for 12/12. do you think using the 400 and 150 would make that much difference then just using the 400?

I'm in a 3x3x6 closet, no outside venting with an oscillating fan. 400 hps with 85-90* outside temp(closet over garage) and inside thermostat set at 70. My closet temp are 85 with lights on, 75 lights off. Sure, your lights may keep it wam in the closet when it 10-30 outside, but I don't think it will be ideal, specially at lights out. Awful lot of stress with the high heat to cold fluctuation. Could try to rig a way to meep the height of the closet at the top of the lights to hold it in some, but again at lights out it's gonna get cold.

wow i never thought about lights off! doh! i will have a heater in there for sure. is this your 1st grow in your closet? if not how many plants do you have in there at a time and how well are your yelids if you dont mind me asking?

Me? I grow tomatoes. :-D
I currently have 2 in there lst'd pretty heavy. First indoor trained grow. I am usually the outdoor gardener type. So yield will be unknown for me till harvest. I won't even guess till the grow is over. Even if it appears to be around 2.5-3 z, it could die. Will know how much in 4 weeks on one plant, and another 8 or more on plant 2.

Another thing you will probably want to do is (if the grow area has not light leaks) swap with the natural light cycle. Run your lights at nite when the outside temps are coldest, so just the natural heat build up during the day will make it so the space heater works a bit less.I used to live in north new hampshire like 20-30 minutes from Mt Washington, so I know how cold, cold can get in a non heated room.
