Harvesting a male

Say my plant begins to sex and it turns out to be male (bummer i know) but i still want to make butter out of it. Should i let it keep flowering or chop it up right away? In other words, is it worth it to let a male grow a little longer with the hopes to make butter out of it?

ive only done this once and wouldnt recomend smoking it, but i have had the same problem years ago and impressed my growing friends by turning a male almost to female buy adding heaps of bloom.

it wasnt a real female it just had half male/female looking buds with heaps of hairs. from memory i removed all the balls and feed it bloom nut.

a total waste of time and vertually no thc

not worth the effort or risk. the only reason you want a male is to get seeds

Males have no buds, only seed pods, but they will make a hell of a ball of hash if you don't let him completely make balls , chop up in little

pieces, put in a brown bag and put in the freezer for a day or so then make bubble hash, I promise you will get results.

What's all the misinformation running rampid here?

1.) Males DO produce THC. Just not nearly as much as female buds (which are seed pods, clustered).
2.) You CAN stress a male to turn female just like you can stress a female to become male. It will produce just like any other hermie would. If left to flower long enough, it should produce stalked trichomes just as any other female would. Potency may be lower than true virgin female.
3.) I've never tried it, but I bed dollar to doughnuts that the bubble hash you're talking about with mostly male pollen sacs is... drum-roll please... POLLEN!!! It may still give you a buzz due to the fact that within the male flower sacs is where the males have the most amount of trichome heads. They are not raised like the females are. And it's not NEARLY as much as female buds; however it'll still give you a buzz if you smoke enough of it. You can see them youself with a scope if you open one up. You'll see pollen mixed with the trichome heads. The heads will be slightly larger than the pollen.
4.) As stated before; because of the low trichomes to plant material ratio in males, they are very rarely kept or harvested for anything other than seed production. Their pollen is harvested, and the plant destroyed. The pollen is then used to fertilize female plants by brushing pollen against the pistols (the white hairs). Once done her pistol will turn a darker color and she will produce a seed in her seed pod... or singular bud. ;)

ok, i understand that the males don't produce as much THC but i know they have some... What i'm asking is when is the best time to chop them and make them into hash or butter? do i let them flower a few weeks?

Well... that's a judment call on your part based on your strain. I don't think you'll find too much expertise here with when is the "perfect" time to harvest males for THC. But, I would guess you would leave it alone long enough to grow as many balls as possible, but you want to harvest the balls before they open because that's where the trichomes are. Once the pods open to release the pollen, you'll most likely lose what little trichomes there are too.

So in short; harvest a male plant when he has what you feel is the most pollen sacks that it will have unopened. It doesn't take long at all for them little fuckers to open either. They can appear in a day and open the next in some strains.

Good luck!

Red has spoken the true facts you must decide when to chop from time pollen is ready till end of cycle there will be all differentck stages of production of them going on from open to tiny beginning stage
