Harvesting Early (Only Clears) -- Is It Really That Bad?

There are a few questions embedded in this post, not just the headline. I am truly curious in your experience in harvesting early - no matter the reason.

First off, I've got myself into a possible jam, and I want to have the right mindset before I put in all this time and money.

Understand, I have already started. So, I am asking this in real time, not just theoretical.

Background/Setup: I signed up for the Real Grower Grow Competion 2022. The premise is simple, grow only using Grow Dots and Recharge as the Core ingredients.

You can supplement, although I am sure the fairest way would not to use other brands of Microbes because Recharge. Even so, I am in Coco, so I know I'll have to keep extra Calcium on the ready.

Anyway, my wife and I leave for a cruise at the end of September, which would average about 77 days for the plants if the clock starts today.

More specifically, I have a Super Skunk auto (Seedstockers) that is about 5 days above ground (so 82 days before chop).

I also, have one Mephisto Double Grape with a half inch taproot that I just covered this am, and one other that should show taproot by tomorrow.

Sorry for the long build up, but here are my questions:

I know that clear trichomes can mean a more "head" high, but is that always true?

Should I make these plants into oils instead of smoking weed?

Or should I say, WTF, a little psycho high ever so often can be a fun time too?

Bottomline: Am I growing something that I will regret if I chop too early, or is it USABLE, just not ideal?

What are your experiences with harvesting earlier than you wanted do to life situations, etc.?

No matter what, I'm going to go ahead and do this grow, if not for anything of than the time to work on my photography. I'm addicted to growing and shooting pictures.

Thanks for getting this far in a TLDR series of questions.

Knowing ahead of time you might not be in your harvest window before you leave, I'd look at cheap automatic watering systems to take care of them while you're gone instead. By chopping early you're leaving weight and a lot of terpene development on the table. That plays a part in the high of the strain just as much as how clear or cloudy the trichomes are. The smells and flavors of ripe, mature buds are worth waiting for in my opinion. If you have no choice then do what you gotta do, but it seems like planning to fail to me.

Judging by the size of those plants if you chop now you will not get high at all, too early. Give it a few months.

Brilliant!

I was looking at this through the eyes of my growing them in bottom-watered GrowBuckets. Instead, I'll transfer my coco & and grow dots over to my AutoPot system.

I'll load up the rez with RO water and SLF-100 and hit the high seas.

Trust me. The last thing you want on this earth is a couple ounces of weed that doesn't do fuck all. You can't even give it away. FInd a trusted friend to care for them while you're away, set up auto water, let them go hella long, whatever. Just don't chop early.

I've been wanting to try those grow dots out. I need to look into them a little bit more before I give them a chance. Sounds like you have a good plan and plenty of time to get set-up. Hope it goes well for you. Post some updates when you get back and let us see how they did.

I'll do better than that ... I'll create a Grow Diary, if not here, on Grow Diary . com.

I was only in service for 9 years. But, my training was always on Army bases. My A&C school were at Fort Benjamin Harrison (Indianopolis) and I finished up my career at Fort Meade, Md.

Except for my time on USS George Washington (CVN-73), I was always surrounded by joint services. Meaning, I get the inter-service fun-poking and highly encourage it ... especially from the Ditch Diggers and Jar Heads. Now, as for the Air Force, they are too busy saluting with their hands in their front pockets. :D

Sounds complicated for an ex squid lol. Just kidding, Army guys gotta take shots. You guys had way better tech than we did anyway.

A funny Army/Navy story ... to me anyway.

Back in the early 90s we were doing some GITMO area ops when some Haiti stuff popped up. DoD sent some Rangers down, along with some helicopter crews to use us as a launching platform. I remember walking through the hangar bay watching some E-4 Army kids making E-1 to E-3s drop and do push ups.

I was an E-4 at the time and I remember, there was no way a standard Third-Class Petty Officer was going to make a Seaman or less do push-ups at any random point. For the most part, no real power started until E-5.

Nothing worse than a new Corporal, that's the first position you get in the Army you can really start locking people up at attention and giving them orders. Luckily I was in aviation and we didn't have them, we had specialist's, same E4 pay grade but not the same attitude usually. We also had Warrant officer's instead of field grade officer's for the most part. They were a lot more relaxed in general, in terms of spit and polish and the general BS than say a Major would be. Especially in an air cavalry troop, we were a lot like family with old cavalry customs like Stetson hats and Spurs. The infantry guys and tankers had it way worse with the physical stuff like that.
