Help wiring a fan speed controller

Please somebody help me........

I have just purchased an extractor fan which looks like this:

The wiring inside it looks like this.....

I have also bought a Voltage stepping fan speed controller, the inside of which looks like this:

The fan came with a 3-core cable which I have wired to the controller.

Now what i have worked out is that:
1) I connect the cable that came with the fan, instead to the controller as you can see above on the left

2) I need another cable to connect the controller to the fan.

3) I need to connect the live (L1) and neutral (N1) to the corresponding live and neutral on the fan.

My questions if anybody can help a stressed out idiot are:

1) Is the controller compatible with the fan (I'm in trouble if it's not)

1) What kind of cable do i need (I reckon maybe a 4-core cable but this might be completeley wrong!)

2) What connections do i need to make as there are 4 remaining connections on the controller and a total of six on the fan

I hope that makes enough sense to somebody out there.....
Massive appreciation in advance to anyone who knows what to do!!

P.S UK by the way!

the H, M, L, on the fan are high, medium and low. these are for hard wiring different speeds.

so yellow is ground hook it to the controller at ground. i would assume that brown is a leg(120V), and the black is a leg(120V). then hook to legs to controller, at L and N.

i am not familiar with these controllers and am making an educated guess. get with Iam5toned, he is a spark and will know exactly.
