help with buble systemd

So I built a basic system lastnight, I put in a germinated seed that had been in soil for about 5 days root was about 3" long I put the tip of the root thru one of the wholes in my net pot so it was just touching the water long story short this morning it is completely wilted and dead, what is the best way to start a plant in one of these systems?

the best way to start a plant in one of these systems is to water by hand or with a dripper till the plants roots are getting into the water.

so the roots shouldnt touch the water initially??? should I just get some of those rockwool cubes just trying to figure out how to start growing with this thing
