Help with SOG grow room

Hi guys, I have spent hours and hours reading things on this website but I still need to ask for a lil help so any input is much appreciated.

Now what I'm wanting to do is build 2 boxes so one will have clones that have just been planted (not rooted yet) and the other box will have the rooted clones with 12/24. So the second box will be split into 4 sections so the plants will spend 2 weeks in each section so on the final section they should be ready. I was thinking of making the boxes out of ply wood and was going to use cfl's to light them and more than likely use pc fans for air intake and exhaust. I'm trying to keep everything on a low budget but also as practical as it can be so I will be using soil for all plants. I am wanting each section of box 2 (the flouring box) to harvest 1-2 zips every harvest.

So how many plants should I have in each section to get the target harvest also if anyone can suggest any changes I should make b4 building. And I am still unsure of how big the boxes will be.

Any input is appreciated and sorry if I have asked a question that has all ready been answerd I have done my best to research this first.

there should be only 2 main sections, one 12/12 flowering and another 24/0 vegging. so you plan on getting 1-2oz every 2 weeks, you will require 600watts HPS, add to it a dialed room and great strains. cfl's can't give you these amounts, nor would pc fans be able to cool the lights. for your goal you need to have a 4x4' dedicated for flowering. number of plants is not the important factor rather the number of watts. reconsider your investment and goals, maybe cut down on smoking make a smaller room or invest some more and get the 600 with the needed equipment

i have a suggestion on CFL -- i wouldnt use them personally but if you insist on using them you need to reflect the light all around your plant with Mylar

Yo Bobby its your paragative! (lol) what is your budget b/c your outcome will depend wildly on your budget. If you want 1 or 2 zips a week you can for get cfl's and just plan to buy a 400w hps because the amount of cfls needed you should just save time and space and get the hps. Your light source is one of the biggest cost. The second most important thing is a plant with good genetics. Here is a list of questions I need you to answer....

What is your budget?
What is your grow area? (what size boxes are you thinking of building)
Do you have Lowes, Homedepot, Walmart nearby?
Do you have access to tools?
Are you familiar with electrical work?
Do you have an established mother?
Indica, sativa or hybrid?
Is this personal or business or a mixture?

Answer those and we can walk you though it....

hi thanks for the replys. as for the questions

budget?= will change and im happy to wait longer to get it right just dont have thousands.
grow area?= can be any size i just didnt want anything to big
as for shops i dont have any of those but have no problem getting everything needed.
and yep loads of tools as i was a mechanic by trade
electrical work i can manage on my own.
mother is 3 weeks old now under a light indoors.
it is super skunk so that would be hybrid i think?
and its a mixture of business and personal use?

i hope that answers all the questions. i thought i could get away with using cfl's since the plants will only be small but more of them?

get a 600w HPS aircooled with its fan, 4'x4' chamber and pots, i would do 6 plants, if you're successful and have thick buds growing you will need a dehumidifier to prevent mold

So you are saying I will need 24 plants at a time in total. Just a reminder this is a SOG project so clones will be on 12/24 not long after they have rooted. That's why I though cfl lights would do ok

oh right you're cloning, i assumed u growing from seeds, for small clones 18-24 clones feasible under a 600 but with the right strain and right high rate cloning technique and healthy moms.
IMO don't aim for a SOG from the start, just aim for a good 1st grow, SOG will take too much lost time growing the mom and cloning enough clones, by that time you would have flowered the first grow, then the sog will start, just my experience

Ok, you have to go with 4 600w HPS on a light mover covering 4 4x4 ebb and flow tables. Clones don't take much room so you could house them in a cabinet in the primary flower room or in a small closet outside the flower room.

Thanks for that your set up looks good and seams to work just fine. I have 2 bigger plants atm about 3 weeks in to flouring once they are done I might try and get them back in to veg so they can be used as mothers.

388w of cfl only makes sense if you had not enough height, in normal growspace, might as well get a 250 or 400 HPS more lumens, more area coverage LESS heat, yes, LESS heat per watt than cfl and much more bud + a lot simpler to have a single light than a jungle of cables and lights

Ok so let's just say for arguments sake that I wanted to have 10 clones going at a time and I was going to bud them right away would I be able to do that with 1 hps bulb where is with cfl I would need something like 7-10.

yeah that's how it is and cfl is also less efficient less lumens/watt ratio. i have done up to 20 small clones under a 400w hps, however number of plants is not significant rather the number of watts. that is 20 plants would yield similar to what 4 plants would under the same light, just that you will have to veg them longer

With what you said this is what "I" would do, I would find some prefab cabs at your local hardware store something like this,,, http://www.lowes.com/pd_83870-444-WS48MP_4294855557+5003700_4294933768_?productId=1102057&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_100%2B200_4294855557%2B5003700_4294933768_%3FNs%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr%7C0%7C%7Cp_product_quantity_sold%7C1%26page%3D1&facetInfo=$100 or you could build it, then you could split it into 2 chambers and size them as needed. If you are going to run a 10 plant sog the footprint of your flowering area wont need to be that big. I would go with a 400w hps http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230594339956 you will need to vent it of course but it will produce a good bit of greenage. If you dont like that idea this guy has a great set up....http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=115690 Sorry for all the links but I am a visual learner and it helps me a lot to see things people are talking about...

This is a crazy statement. I ran 800w of CFL in a 2x4x3 area with no heat problems. My 400w HPS heats my entire 10x7' bed room from 50 to 65. Not at all less heat per watt than CFLs.

I personally use both CFLs as well as a 400w and 600w MH for veg. MH is more conveneint but produces ALOT more heat and CLFs/Fluoro tubes actually seem to promote growth better.

Keep in mind the inverse square law and the spectrum the bulbs put off. I personally use CFLs, Fluoro tubes, a 400w and a 600w MH for veg. In my opinion the CFLs work the best, the fluoro tubes second and the MH is the most convenient but the least effective when it comes to growth compared to power consumption.

Couldn't find the lighting specs for a 45w light so this is based on GE's 23w bulb putting out 1075 lumen each (most bulbs put out more).

Going to get a bit more even growth with the CLFs. Lumen would be a bit higher if you swapped the 12 low W CFLs for less higher W.

All about combining them if you ask me:

thanks for that i might give the last link you provided a go it looks simple and effective now i will just need to figure out exactly what cfl bulbs to use and what fan to use.

You can use any of the spiral types for veg i would use 23w 6500K (day light) bulbs and for flower use 23w 2700k (softwhite) bulbs, both are avalible almost anywhere....
