How big is too big

How big of a light can I put in a 5x2 closet of the three foot entrance is kept open and astandard fan is blown on the plants. The room the closet is in is about ten by ten and always kept closed off. Would a 400 be too much?

400 = Too Much.

Use Floro's to get the best fit. its long and skinny, get long and skinny lights. get a 4 bulb T5 set-up with 65 W Bulbs. 250 watts of Floro should be good for a space that size.

Do you have a way to vent out the top of your grow area?

Yeah there is a shelf that runs the length across the top. I could close the closet off but leave the shelf area open to the room and run the exhaust through the shelf. Would that be effective. I'm looking to improve from fluorescents. Maybe a 250? Conversion ballasts?

Dude I've ran a 600w in a 3'x3'x6'. You will be impressed
with the growth you get. You just gotta keep it in temp range
with your exhaust setup and you will be golden.

I have a 5 ft high, 2 ft deep 4 feet wide tent and I use a 400w with no problems.

get urself a ballast that allows 250 400 N 600 .... and wen u wana use a bigger space u can just turn it up and get the right size bulb instead of buying a new ballast.. my biggest regret.. was not doing more research beforejumping into buying all this ....

As do I and I don't have a problem either. My 425 cfm fan over kills it though. it can get down to 67 with lights on.

I know that almost any light will fit in there with the right exhaust, but I'm not wanting to dish out 250 or more on a good fan. I'm kinda hoping to let most the air flow be controlled by an oscillating fan, with a small 80 cfm fan hooked up to the light or blowing the air out of the closet if i decide to make it a closed in space. I want to be as simple and cheap as I can be while staying effective.
