when 50% of the hairs turn amber, also at that point your fan leaves will be yellowing and falling off indicating its time to harvest...

I was gonna say what reef couple did. Also my buds usually have a big increase in mass then they stop producing mass, If your hairs start to shrivle up youve gone too far.

Having read thru these suggestions, I can only say that you'd be wise to look at the faq's under grow/harvest.
The color of the pistil method just isn't reliable. Learn to read your trichomes.
