How deep is too deep to plant?

Hi everybody. If a seed were to be planted about 2 inches below soil is this too deep? If all other variables are controlled (light, soil, etc) will it only prolong the amount of time it takes to see it emerge or will it not come up at all?

It would probably rot before it popped

Seeds have only so much potential energy. So, to answer your question, if you plant the seed too deep it will not have enough of said energy to push to the surface. It is recommended to plant your seed 2x as deep as it is wide - so, not very deep at all. I personally germinate beforehand. Regards. :peace:

I've planted the seeds that deep before, without any problems, only once, years and years ago, but they all germinated, didn't seem to have an adverse reaction to anything, the key is to not have the soil to packed or too tight. However for future reference, less than 1 cm deep.

How long did it take your seeds to come out of the soil?
