How do I flush my plant before harvesting? Using miracle grow soil...

How should i flush my plants before harvest? Unfortunately, i had to use miracle grow, so the fertilizer is in the soil already, and is released over time. How can i flush my plants without overwatering them and causing root rot? Thanks.

Im afraid that flushing is basically overwatering in one go. But if you have good drainage its not a problem as the excess will come out, this washing the nutes out with it. Its not going to hurt as the problem of over watering occur when you water to often. Leaving a good time after flushing for the soil to dry out is all you need to do before watering again. As your flushing before harvest you are not going to give any nutes so just flush wait for soil to dry out a bit then flush again, repeat until harvest. I cant see you developing any problems cos of flushing.

christ.. i dont know much about flushing... but i know its pretty much over watering... all i know is id stop using nutes 2 weeks before harvest.... but thats not relevant to your situation.... sorry lol

Wait until the plant really needs water, and then run 1 gal of water for each gal of mix. It's that simple.

You can't over-water if the plant needs water - unless it's a seedling in a 5 gal bucket or something.

i do not know much either, i belive you put 3x the size of container with water. am i right?

Flushing is rearly just passing loads of water through the pots in one go its like over watering but is not actually over watering. Over watering is when you do it too often. Whenever I water soil plants I do it till run off, then I know that the soil is at its saturation level. So as to not over water you have to wait for the saturation level in the soil to drop before watering again, you can tell this because the soil is drying out. Please dont think your doing harm by flushing, its not truely over watering.

Even though you used MG pre-fert soil, the auto fert "pellets" should've come close to running their course by now (most only last 6-9 months).

Get a big container - one that will hold at least three times the volume of your dirt (iow if you are growing in 5 gal. pots, you will need 15 gal. to flush.

Make sure the PH of your flushing water is good, and let the water sit for 24 hours before use. I also like to throw a pump in the water to add air bubbles.

I would imagine you will want to do this outside? I like to set my growing pot on top of a couple of bricks or something so that the water will go through as quickly as possible. Making sure the growing pot has plenty of drainage holes is important as well.

Start dumping water in, making sure what you dump has a minute to go through...repeat until all water is used up.

Let the plant finish draining, then place back in your grow room. ALL DONE!

As long as your soil isn't too dense (or retains a lot of water for days on end) you shouldn't have to worry about root rot. Obviously you won't need to water again until the pot feels light in weight.
