Hey, i am moving into a new place with a basement at the end of the month and it has a perfect spot for growing. I want 8-10 plants.

1. What size HPS should i get, for between 8 to 10 plants?


2. What is better to veggy with, MH or CFL?

#2. My first grow was with MH. I am getting ok results. Mostly cause I was a moron an not listened. My 2nd grow is with CFL and I am following everything very very close. PH, Chems, lights etc. I will tell you this. The this is my 1st month into the cfl grow. My electric bill is about 10 bucks cheaper and the plants being 4 weeks in are in such better shape then my last grow. I am in the final stages on my 1st grow. That started in Feb of last 08. This new grow should be able to pull off bud in 3 months.

its all about lumens per sq foot. As far as HPS in an open basement you could go as big as 1000hps since its open heat shouldn't be a problem.

1000 watts would be awesome

but i bet you could get away with 600 if they weren't monsters

for that many plants id say you can stick with the mh instead of cfls because youd need SO many cfls to get them to flowering

you can even get one of the deul hps/mh systems they have and be super set... or you can grow 100% with the hps (except for seedlings always start seedling off with cfls) and be fine ive seen tons of grows done only with hps's

how many lumens per plant?

i was looking at the 1000w HPS/MH ballasts, should i get that and the HPS and MH bulbs?

then you gotta do cool tubes exhaust carbon filters fans ventilation etc etc etc it gets expensive

yeah it does, the venting and everything else wont be a prob, just the lights, gotta save a bit to get them but itll be worth it.

Check E-bay out, I just picked up 1000w hps and mh lights, with a digital ballast (runs both lights) and the total was 430 canadian, now that the dollar is down if you live in the US you can probably get it for the same or even less. This is the cheapest combo I have found and everyone who has bought them seem to be satisfied.
