HTG switching ballasts on me

I reported in another thread that my 400w digital greenhouse ballast was running very hot. I contacted HTG to see if this was normal. They said it was defective and then sent me another ballast. That ballast ended up being some super generic ballast.

I dunno much about various ballasts but, would I be better off sending back the generic one even if it runs cooler (I'll find out when the lights come on later). Should I be upset that they are pulling a switch on me? Should I send back the generic and ask for a REAL exchange?

Surely the original "Digital Greenhouse" unit was also manufactured in China. No?

Digital Greenhouse ARE made in China, so whats he difference? I have 3 DG units and they work great. Almost cool to the touch. But, I would give these new units a try, and if they are not satisfactory, complain. I'm sure HTG will make it right.

I think the bottom line is that you purchased a SPECIFIC PRODUCT. Unless that product has been recalled and is no longer available, your original defective unit should have been replaced with the same product (or one that you consider better).

To make a comparison... let's say you bought a Dell computer and then returned it because there was a problem. Now... if the store tried to swap it with say....
a Gateway.... would you accept that? I KNOW I WOULDN'T!

Ultimately it is up to you ... you are the customer... you are the one who will be using the product day in and day out. I'm not familiar enough with ballasts to give any advice on which is better.... all I'm saying is that they should not have replaced one model with a different one without your approval first.

If HTG can't make you happy then return it all and get your money back and purchase elsewhere.

So they emailed me back telling me this new ballast IS digital greenhouse in a new case. That and it is supposed to run MH and HPS while the old digtial greenhouse 400w doesn't, even thought they told me over the phone it does. (Sidenote: That answers my ORIGINAL question about why it was so hot. doesn't appear to be a real digital ballast?)

Well, the ballast says it is a MH ballast right on it, and it doesn't say digital greenhouse anywhere on it. I just don't believe them.

On a final note, has anyone tried digital greenhouse 400w with both HPS and MH? (I have the pink colored one myself)

Well, they responded with "We sent you the new digital greenhouse, call if you have questions"

So please please HELP ME. Can anyone else find any way to confirm if this ballast is a digital greenhouse? I can't find any way to prove it.

better make sure your using the matell my first greenhouse bulb they specify for this ballast."HID MH Digital Electronic Ballast for 400W Matel Halide Lamp".just kidding.anyway i would be pissed if they sent me an inferrior replacement.in fact i would demand they replace it with one that says digital greenhouse on it.
