Hybrid vigour

Hey all, I recently tried making my own feminised seeds using colloidal silver and it seems to have worked a treat.
I've crossed victory seeds "Northern lights" (which I hadn't grown before and was disappointed with) with seedsman seeds " alaskan purple" which I was quite happy with as an experiment.
I then grew the seeds alongside other seeds I had purchased from various seed banks, all under the same conditions... I have about 30 "bought" seeds and around 40 of my own hybrids.
I've noticed that my seeds seem to be really out performing the other bought seeds (during veg anyway) with the exception of "critical +" by linda seeds which is keeping pace but I think it is an F1 anyway.

Any thoughts or similar projects ??

When you cross 2 different stable strain then the resulting offspring (F1) will show hybrid vigour (heterosis). Succeeding generations will grow normal.

I like your profile pic. I used to help breed battle cocks in my family game fowl farm.

Yeah I was wondering why seed banks don't sell more F1 seeds if the benefits are widely know and I can potentially just cross some of their best strains and get something significantly better that what they sell.
Yeah I keep a few American game, also just got some Burmese pama and asil from Pakistan. Great looking birds but very aggressive towards each other, even as chicks!

That's what many are doing. Selling F1's.

So would you just assume that seedsmans house strain "peyote wifi" is an F1
The description says - Wi-Fi (The White x Fire OG) x Peyote Purple
And that many of the seeds I've been buying are F1's with shit labelling.
I really don't often see F1 advertised when im shopping for weed seeds online but if it's pumpkin seeds or any other kind of seed that in buying in Australia its the first thing they tell you in the description, plus it'll usually have a box with F1 in bold back and white on the front of the pack.
And if it's the case that most are F1's why are my seeds growing better than most of the seedbank seeds I paid top dollar for.....

Hope its ok to jump in this thread, save starting a new,,

How does hybrid vigour transfer to a double cross? F1xF1...does vigour remain,,

also “generally” how much pheno variation would result from a double cross using 4 landrace/Ibl strains,,

thank you!

Crossing two different F1 strains results in a TON of variation. Traits from all 4 grandparents will be segregating in the offspring. Sounds like the start of a great project, especially if you've got the space to crack a lot of seed!

@Geneiac thanks for the reply,

so they will be more like a f2 generation in terms of variation as opposed to F1,,this is going on my basic/general understanding that true F1 will be more uniform compared to F2’s where the real variation starts,,

Cant find much info on double crosses ,so just trying to learn and get a better understanding , so hopefully when/if I can start my pipedream project will be better informed .

Would stabilising the two F1’s first then combining later be a more efficient route, ?

cheers,
