HydroHut Mini Ventillation

Hi all, after struggling with building a grow room and wrestling with sealing light leaks, heat, etc. I finally got a Hydrohut Mini.

First off, these things are not "mini" at all. They are fairly large. Secondly ventilation...

While there are many areas for ventilation surrounding the bottom of the hut, I suspect that it wasn't really designed with a "cooltube" in mind. The examples basically show a light suspened with chains, and the duct fan sucking air from the top of the hut (with optional filter attached).



Question is:

What do most find an effective way of cooling this thing. It is about 3.5 X 3.5 X 6.

My setup is a 250w hps and a 340CFM 6in inline ducting fan. Right now I am just cooling the light (no filter/scrubber really needed)

It is basically a passive system with outside air coming in from the bottom vents...through the light, into the ducting fan..and out of the top.

Temps are about 4 degrees above ambient. The Hut is sitting in an unused closet with the door open. :mrgreen:

I had the same problem with mine. My temps wee reaching 96-97-98 degrees. I finally
bought a small A/C window unit and placed it in my garage side door and backed my hut right up to the A/C. The intake fan and the cooltube for the light would not do the job.

WHOA! Mine hasn't gotten that hot. Outside of the closet temp is about 78, inside the hut with the cooltube about 81. I am not pulling cold air from outside directly. ie the 6in fan is exhausting the Hut and cooling the tube. Exhaust is also kind of just going into the top of the closet. I keep the door open so it will eventually leak out.

It may lower the temps if I just had the fan cooling the light only. You would probably have to cut custom holes in the hut to do that though.

As an aside. 300+ cfm will cave in the sides of a hydrohut mini.

I suppose 81-82 degrees is probably ok since I don't have reservoirs to worry about.

I made some modifications to the hydrohut mini for those out there considering buying one...

I'd say definitely get a 6in inline duct fan with these. Although all the standard connectors/ducting vent holes are 4in.

You can basically cut around the 4in flange which is just large enough to act as a guide for 6in ducting.

Venting outside of the closet, temps are down to maybe 1 degrees above room temp with hps inside. No need to have the the 6in fan cooling just the tube, it does fine venting the entire tent and light.

Also with a fan that is 300cfm or greater, it is a good idea to buy a Shanty Cap at your local hardware store to put on the other end of the cooltube. This prevents the sides of the hydrohut mini from caving in and stopping the suction on the open end of the cooltube.

how many watts is your hps?

What kind of 340 cfm fan do you have? can you post a link or picture of the specific fan? I think I know what your problem is. I have a mini too and initially I bought a 350 cfm fan from home depot for like $30. I found that those types of fans don't have accurate ratings and aren't nearly as powerful as they say they are. I shelled out the cash and bought a 300 cfm fan for like $160 that is specifically meant for exhausting grow rooms and it works much better in getting that hot air from the bulb out of the hut.

I'm not having any more issues with cooling. The internal temp is about the same as the external temp. The 6in is doing just fine. I have the 6" TD Series Inline Fan, 312 CFM. (Which is extremely quiet btw.) I was having problems when I used the 4in inline fan which is about 140cfm.

Basically I was saying for anyone who wants to buy one of these, don't bother with a 4in fan if they can afford to get a 6in. Also that they don't need to have the cool tube pulling air from outside of the Hut.

They will also need to cut holes because the hut doesn't have standard 6in ducting. :hump:

Oh, I am not talking about the cheapy fans. I am talking about an actual inline duct fan. Both the 4in and 6in were over $100. The 4in fan could not move enough air to keep the cooltube and tent cool.
