I'm just going to point out that you came to the LED section of the website. I'm just going to wager that the bulk of the advice is going to be oriented around LED. Likewise if you had posted an identical thread in the fluorescent section, the advice would be fluorescent oriented.

I say read a few of the DIY threads on the first few pages. Best bang for your buck.

My advice - check Chonrikool's strip led light threads. Buy 2 or 3 5M strips of 5630 in warm white (roughly $10 per 5M, so $20 in lights), Buy a 12V 8A ac/dc adapter from ebay ($10-$12), and buy a 12v 8a dimmer ($10 or so on amazon or ebay). Run the LED strips through the dimmer so you can adjust output according to what heat you can tolerate. There's an excellent cool running LED solution for $40 and a tiny bit of soldering.

What he said ^^ hope you and the lady are doing well 'taker.

Get in touch with chronikool about PC towers and led lighting. Other than that- the micro growing section should be helpful

Depending on the space/skills/money that you have available. You could consider getting some CREE or philips LED bulbs from home depot. I know CREE recently came out with 100w equivalent versions.

Good alternate suggestion if you can't solder at all or want to stick with std light sockets.
