Unless you think of CFLs as grow lights, they don't sell grow-lights at the hardware store. Since you have a computer, why not consider getting it over the net?

you can get a t5 fluro tube type of light pretty much anywhere.. they come in two and four foot lengths, and also with two four or eight bulbs.. i went with a two footer with four bulbs for my improved grow space, and i have to say i really love it.. very nice piece of equipment if i sdo say so.... these are great for using for vegging a couple of plants under them...
i am not sure what canadian tire is, but if it is like a big home improvement store like we have in the states, then i would bet that you could pick up like a 65-120 watt cfl set-up there like we can at like home depot or loewes.. it can be found on the outdoor lighting and spot light isle.. it comes complete with a built in ballast and a small hood.. the bulb is encased in a small glass square.. they have a photo eye that just needs to be covered over so that the light no longer just comes on with the darkness... these aren't a bad starting point for one or two small plants to flower under..
you can always order from the internet.. it is a fairly safe process so long as your not ordering like 10000 watts worth of lamps along with a ton of hydro equipment.. a reputable site is hightekgarden supply.. or htgsupply.. i have ordered from them several times and they have great prices and fast shipment... they have alot of different choices, and this is where i got my t5 from.. they even have some nice hid lamps, both hps and mh, which is the best way to grow imho..
i hope that this info helps you out some..

edit.. just saw your post about no cc.. check your stores for the cfl's i mentioned.. they run anywhere from like $50-100 or so for the larger wattage ones i mentioned..
have you checked to see if any online stores accept any kind of money orders, which can be purchased anywhere.. and i even think that walmart, not sure if they are in canada yet, sells worldwide mo's.. that is if you can't find an online store that is in canada.

ya, know thats great, thanks. i think i saw that light your talking about at canadian tire. ( ya, its a big everything store. home repair, sporting goods, car repair. garden center.) any ways, thanks again.

no problem.. i can't for the life of me remember the brand name of the one i am talking about, but you will see it.. i think it says something like outdoor floodlight cfl or the like on the box.. i would go for the biggest watt one that you could afford.. these really aren't all that bad of a light to get your feet wet with..

because i dont have a credit card. i guess im just gonna keep looking for grow stores in my area.
Most vendors will accept check, and ship after it clears. Another option is money-order or cashiers check. But of course you may find something locally.
Besides you don't need a credit card - a debit card will do, and that comes with any type of checking account - which may come in useful for other things as well.

You could also try and get a little prepaid visa gift card, you can use those to buy things over the internet. They sell them all over, in the states at least.

so im just kinda shopping around right now. i ppicked up these cfls, but the watts are kinda low. its a 13 wat light but says it equals to so watts. are if i use 3 or four of these on two plants will i get a good veg out of them:?:
